Officejet Pro 8100 N811a
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am trying to salvage my Office Jet Pro 8100 - N811a which has not been turned on in a year.  I consistently get the same error message "Missing or Failed Printhead" any time i try to print.  I have followed all online HP instructions with no improvement (including simply restarting, cleaning the ink cartridges, and the guided "Remove and reinstall the Printhead" from the User Guide).

Visual inspection does not show any issues I can see on the printhead or cartridges, and printer has never been damaged in any way.  all catridges are atleast 2/3 full, and motors/gears/mechanics all seem to to run fine.  But result is the same.

Within the printer Toolbox, under "Printhead Health" tab, the "Health" line reads "Missing".  Seems like a clear indication, but  printer used to work and has not been moved, so not sure how the print head could be missing.

Additional info:

I have update the software/drivers today.

I am connected to the Printer via USB

Can anyone help determine what might be the issue, or additional steps to take? Is replacing the printhead alone possible for this model, and would it solve the problem?

thanks for the help, and please let me know what else i can provide.

As I understand you are getting 'Missing or Failed Printhead' error message on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8100 printer. I'll be really glad to help you with this,

Let's try these steps here:

Please make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a hard reset on the printer.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Now, check for any error message such as a Missing print cartridge, If so, please insert the cartridge one by one.
