computer won't connect to officejet pro 8600 even thought printer is connected to wireless network.  HP Home Network Diagnostic Utility says that the printer software is not installed.  HP Print & Scan Doctor bombs out & quits.  The computer is wired to the wireless router to communicate to wireless devices and the DSL router.  Any suggestions?

Hi There,

I have been searching the forums and doing my own troubleshooting and reading many many posts. I have found one useful article but even with the updated software, I keep losing connection to the printer and I have to reboot in order to be able to print and scan. Even if I try to search for the printer again, it cannot be found on the WinXP computer until I reboot it. But if I reboot it, I don't need to re-scan for it. It just works again for a few hours then stops working again. All the other Windows 7 computers and laptops on the network are fine. They all have the same virus scanner etc.

But at the same time, I have the updated version of the software v25 something and the problem is still occcuring but I can see how this can help some people. I think upgrading to Windows 7 is the solution for now. I have run out of options. I have tried stopping and starting the print spooler manually, which used to fix a heap of problems in the past in WinXP. Deleting and re-adding the printer. Next step before win7 might be to uninstall the software and see if there is anything newer than v25 of the software.

Good luck all!

What operating system?  What router?  Have you restarted the router by pulling its power cord momentarily?

To be sure you have the latest software for your printer get it from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page.

windows XP / Edimax BR-6475nD / I have restarted the router.  I have updated the Hp software.  I was hoping to connect my desktop & laptop wirelessly.  I can get the printer to work with a wired connection.  I could print from the laptop to the previous printer that was wired to the desktop and shared.  When I switch the wire to the old printer the laptop makes it print.  When I switch the wire to the Hp it does not print.  The print setup program gives an error when I try to set it up on the laptop for a wireless connection.  It says "software missing" even though it has been loaded to the laptop.  I received the same error when trying to setup the desktop wirelessly.  Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Make sure your XP is updated (run Windows Update over and over until there are no more).  Restart.  Get the latest software for your printer from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page.

You could try the Network Diagnostic here: http://www.hp.com/go/tools

My operating system is up to date.  The Hp Home Network Diagnostic utility finds a wireless network printer (URL is successfully contacted), but it will not print test.  Hp Print & Scan doctor locks up and quits.  I think I'll call for support.

Good idea.  This is how to contact HP support: www.hp.com/go/totalcare (click on Printers & Monitors, there is a phone number on the resulting page).

Lol, I don't mean to laugh but i have the exact same issue. I've been on the phone a total of 11 hours with hp support in 3 days. And still nothing!!! They cant figure it out. They've done all the trouble shooting they know how to do. I'm waiting from their software engineer to contact me when they have an answer, but i'm not getting my hopes up. I've contacted Dell to see if my computer is blocking the scan driver for some reason but they said its a software issue and i'm not in a contract but they would be more than willing to fix it for 90.00 (one time fee) or 250.00 for a year contract, I laughed at him and said no thanks. My computer is on the network and so is my laptop, but they wont connect to each other over the network, and you need this to do scan to email or scan to folder. So frustrating that no one can figure it out. I'm at the point where i'll just hook the **bleep** thing up to an usb cord just so i won't be on the phone for another 3-4 hours and no results. Also, when i talked to dell, they acted like they know exactly the problem cause they have this issue all the time but won't fix it for free. My opinion is that its a quick way to make a buck, they know their laptop wont connect with anything but a dell printer so people (suckers) will have to call in and pay to have it work with another brand. Good luck with hp support. If you get it fixed, any pointers would be great

Hi Micheal_of_NASC!

From my knowledge, I suggest you to see if the wireless network that you put for your printer is the same as the internet on your computer(s). These all should depend on the router recieving the signals properly.

Hope this helps! 🙂

FWIW, I came across this forum with the same problem.  Once I disabled "Enable Wireless Isolation" on my wireless router, the problem was solved.
