I have a new HP Officejet pro 7740 as I needed large format printing. After unpacking I started the installation on the PC’s at home.
After installing the printer on several PC's, it didn't work except on 1 PC, but after reïnstalling WIndows 10 from scratch (dll-issue with Outlook) even that PC didn’t print any more.
I have multiple events :
- when printing there are no errors, but the print order disappears from the print que as if the job has been executed
- when clicking on het print button or requesting a test page, a box immediately appears with the following message (translated) “The (test)page hasn’t been printed. Would you like assistance from the printing problem solver” After choosing this option windows concludes that the problem can’t be solved by the problem solver.
I tried almost everything,
- using the USB instead of the network
- removing and reinstalling the software
- resetting the printer
- Use the HP-software suite or detection of the printer by Windows
I conclude that probably there is an internal malfunction in the printer hardware.
I still have the previous Officejet pro 276dw in the network that works perfectly.

There are a few things I would suggest:
Running the diagnostics at http://www.hp.com/go/tools may help resolve the issue. Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor.
If this does not resolve the issue the following may help: assign a static IP address to the printer, outside the DCHP range. On Windows 10 go to the Devices and Printers folder. If a copy of the printer has been installed then right click on the Officejet Pro 7740, select Printer Properties, Ports, Add Port, HP Standard TCP/IP port, New Port, Next, type in the IP address, click the "Always print this device, even if its IP address changes", Next, Finish.
If the printer is not installed download the driver from HP here and install it. After installation, if there are issues change to the static IP address as shown above.
I am not an employee of HP, I am a volunteer posting here on my own time.
