Hello,
I searched the net but could not find the sollution
I want to scan to email from my MFP M477fdw
I use an outlook.com account and choose to adjust the settings by webinterface
The settings I use
smtp-mail.outlook.com
SMTPport : 587 (als tried 25)
SMTP-gebruikers-ID : myemail@outlook.com
Unfortunately I get the error : Unable to resolve SMTP server Check the SMTP and DNS server settings with your system administrator or Internet Service Provider.
The DNS is correct (also used 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
But it simply does not work.
System : W10 64bits
Please help.
Best regards,
Jeffrey

Assuming DNS is working / OK / correct -- more places to double-check include:
- If you have two-step verification switched on, Scan-to-Email will balk (refuse / fail / fall into a heap).
- You might be able to get around this by using an App Password.
App passwords and two-step verification
- If you do not have the Outlook mail program installed on your computer, then you need to add your outlook email account to a Mail program that is (installed) on the computer. (Windows Mail, Thunderbird, etc.)
Add your Outlook.com account to another mail app
Includes SMTP settings...
- The mail program (to be used with Scan-to-Email) should have its defaults assigned that include "Mail to" / Send mail (wording varies)
EXAMPLE:
Control Panel > icon view > Default Programs > Set your default programs >
Click on Outlook 2016 > Choose defaults for this program >
Select (at least): Send mail / MAILTO > Save

Hello Drugon-fur,
Thank you for your prompt and comprehensive reply.
Unfortunattely the problem still exists.
DNS is working correct
Two step verification is off
I use Outlook 2016 witch is the default app and has its defaults assigned (also tried windows 10 mail)
I can use the scan to email function in webservices, but I would like to use it directly.
Best regards,
Jeffrey

Rats.
Printer documentation make several references to the subject to indicate this should be possible; it is perhaps a matter of digging at it a bit more.
If you have not done so, do consider installing the Full Solution Software -- if it has been a long time since the software was installed, consider uninstalling printer programs > reboot > download and install a fresh copy of the Full Solution Software:
HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M477 Printer Series Full Software and Drivers
As always: READ instructions, Revision history, and other information available before installing software.
Recommended - Before you make any changes, create a Restore Point:
- (How to) Create Restore Point
Stop all programs: Browsers, games, Applications, etc.
Control Panel > icon view > System > System Protection >
Click (Highlight) your main disk (C) > Select Create a Restore Point

DNS
I don't use Google Free DNS and cannot comment on its use.
If you do have an ISP (Internet Service Provider), you might try using that in place of the free service.
If you don't have an ISP or if you don't wish to use it for any reason, consider removing and then resetting your DNS settings.
If you are not doing so, set a Static IP address for the printer on your network.

Welcome to the DNS Server Database, here you will find a comprehensive list of the main DNS servers for various popular ISP's located around the world. This list will help you with finding the best DNS server to use for your internet connection which will result in fast DNS lookups.

No doubt you have already read the User Guide > Set up the Scan to Email feature (Page 70)
From the Learn and Use category > Scan to Email
A quick check did not reveal anything specific related to your issue:
IF you have not done so for a while, consider updating the Printer Firmware. READ Instructions, System Requirements, AND the Revision History before updating the firmware.
If I think of anything else, I will post back.

And then suddenly IT WORKS!
I have defined access profiles in my Fritzbox router.
When I disabled them.... Scan tot Email worked (Altough there was no restriction for the MF)
Thanks for all the help.

Excellent. Thanks for posting back what was necessary to unlock the smtp access / setup.
It appears (from a quick look at the router setup for one router in the FritzBox group) that Access Profiles come in four standard flavors.
It might be possible, with some tweaking, to add what you need and still block what you wish to remain restricted.
If the standard User Guide for your router does not cover the subject in enough detail, use your favorite search engine to find more information. Keywords (similar to): access profiles on Fritz router
Be Aware that not all articles / websites on the Internet are safe -- be careful what you open!
Good Luck!
