I have theOfficejet Pro 8600 N911a, that states in the Specs that it can scan using 8.5 X 14 paper.  When I try to scan some sheets, and it loads to the computer, the PDF file only shows approx a 8.5 X11 document.  How do I set it up to accept an 8.5 X 14 document?

Hi wrh1951 and bgaller,

In order to scan a 8.5 X 14 size paper you need to scan it through the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder).

Below is a link to your printers Product Specifications and the Scanning specifications shows that you can only scan 8.5 X 14 from the ADF for your model.

Try this and let me know if it worked.

Sorry, I tried that and it still doesn't work. Besides, the 8500 would accept 8.5 x 14 from the glass just the same as through the document feeder. There has to be another solution to that. I'll keep trying

I finally did find the option to be able to scan 8.5 X 14 paper on my HP Officejet Pro 8600.  Go to the start menu, all programs, HP, HP Officejet 8600, HP scan.  Then under the advanced settings, scan size, select the 8.5 X 14 setting.  NOTE:  I think the   original longer paper copies can only be run thru the "upper"  paper auto feeder tray.  It should work the same for copying  longer sheets.

Right. So I put the HP scan icon on my start bar for easy access. But you have to change the setting back the next time you scan 8.15 x 11. This is annoying though. The 8600 scans faster than the 8500, but the 8500 detected the paper size automatically.

I am using a Mac running OSX Mavericks.  I cannot find settings or advanced settings in HP Scan.  The only way I have been able to scan leagle documents is using Image Capture.  In addition to changeing paper size, I would like to be able to chang the defaul from black and white to color.  That also does not seem possible using HP Scan.   I assume there must be a settings menu, but I cannot find it.

I have been trying to scan 8.5 by 14  pages through the automatic  document feeder and it only scans 8.5 x 11--- now what???

I assume you are using HP Scan.  When you set up a "New Scan"  besure to set the "Crop to:" to US Legal.  I have just done this and it works fine.

You didn't mention what kind of computer you have.  If you are using a Mac and using Image Capture, you will also need to set the  "Size:" to US Legal

Hope this helps.  I do remember when I first got the HP 8600, beign fustrated thinking it would automatically detect the size of paper being scanned.  It can be frustrating at first.

Right now I am using a PC... I went to HP scan and capture - set the setting for 8.5x14, so it scanned the desired size however the resulting images are straiffed with vertical lines... completely unusable! When I scan directly from the printer, it still scans 8.5x11 but the print is as is should be. (Office jet pro 8600)
