Oficejet 6000 E609a
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I have an HP Officejet installed on my wife's desktop computer that works well. However as I try to install it for my desktop on the family network the installation proceeds but in the end it bring an error window with: " Windows cannot connect to the printer" and error: 0x000006be I tried to stop and restart the spooler but I get the same results "...cannot connect..."

The printer was installed on my wife's computer with a USB connection and the latest win 10 driver from HP site; in the printer properties the sharing is properly marked.

Both computers running Win 10 Pro.

Any suggestions to get this problem solved will be greatly appreciated

Hi @Sadnewbie,

Superb analysis and brilliant diagnosis of the issue before posting. Smiley Happy Kudos to you on that score. Smiley Happy You are a valued HP customer and it is paramount to assist you here. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with you. Smiley Happy

For better clarity, I would require more information to assist you.

  • This did start after a windows or software update? Do you remember?
  • How are you trying to connect the printer now?
  • Is it using a USB or wireless connection? Or are you simply sharing the printer on the network?

The printer’s functionality is established as it works fine on your wife’s computer.

So we need to isolate the issue with your computer.

For a start, please perform these steps to uninstall the printer completely.

  • Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
  • Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
  • Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
  • Click on print server properties.
  • You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there, if any.
  • Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
  • Restart the PC.
  • Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
  • Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
  • It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
  • If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application. (like CCleaner downloadable using a google search)
  • Please ignore the regedit option if it cannot be done.
  • Restart the PC again.
  • Then restore the printer’s network defaults by clicking here for the user guide and look up page 49 on how to do it.
  • Later run the wireless setup wizard using the same user guide. please loop up pages 42-53 under the Windows operating system section.
  • Download the latest full feature driver from www.hp.com/drivers and install it on the computer.
  • Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.
  • Please perform these steps patiently and diligently and this should do the trick for you.

Hope this helps.  Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great.  Smiley Happy  Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you. Smiley Happy

DavidSMP,

Apologize for taking so long to answer. I tried  following step by step your advise to connect that printer but had no luck.

Since I had removed my printer connected to my computer. then I had no printers listed in "Connected devices."

Went back again to your message and tried again but the Printer connected to my wife's computer does not show, although it isd marked for sharing.

Decided to not include in my computer had to reinstall my old 6520 Deskjet using the updated drivers from HP web site and it did but then my printer would not work either. Went back to the HP web site and just downloaded the 6500 Series updated driver and it installed without any problem and then my old 6520 work without a hitch.

Gave up on trying to share the Officejet 6000 E609a. Thats where I stand now.

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Regards,

Sadnewbie
