Office jet 4500 wireless
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

I have been trying for about six hours to download and install the OS X 10.11 driver for the Officejet 4500 wireless printer. All of my other computes (both Mac and HP) can access the printer, however my Mac running El Capitan cannot. I have followed the links that lead to the driver software download, but when I click on it, nothing happens. Is there another way to download this driver?

Hi gfiggins,

I understand that you are unable to download the software for you Office jet 4500 wireless printer. It appears that for your printer, the only way to download the printer software is through Apple Update Software (ASU). Go to http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04510394 to learn how to setup your printer via ASU.

I have taken all of those steps...multiple times. The computer is on the same wired network but will not recognize the printer. I have even tried to add it by IP address. That does not work either.

Hi gfiggins,

That's strange that your printer is not showing up. Would you try the steps in this document: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04618676, and then let me know if it helps. If they don't help, I'll need some additional information to help narrow down the issue. If you can provide any screenshots, it would be very helpful.

1. Where are you starting to have issues with the download?

2. Does the printer show up when you try to add it to my Devices & Printers?

3. Are both your printer and computer connected via Ethernet cables?

4. Have you tried a different Ethernet cable?

Thanks!
