HP Deskjet 2541
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

My printer stopped printing. I uninstalled the software and reinstalled using the CD, and it did not fix it. I uninstalled it again, and downloaded it from the website, and it did not work either. I ran the HP Print and Scan Doctor, and everything has a green check, however, it will not print when asked to print a Test Page, but it will printing an internal Test Page. It then says this indicates a problem with the software that the Doctor can't fix and recommends uninstalling and reinstalling it. The printer appears under Devices and Printers and when I go to print, however, nothing happens when I click Print and nothing appears in the Print Queue. Under Devices and Printers, it shows the computer as having something that needs to be troubleshooted. It says "Install a driver for this device" and "The driver for Unknown device is not installed" and then gives the options to Apply the fix or Skip the fix. I tried applying the fix but it says "Unknown device doesn't have a driver." I'm not sure if this is related to the problem or not? I am able to use the scanner though, it just won't print! Please help!

Hi jbean,

Are you able to try send a print job from a different computer to the printer, just to see if you can replicate the issue? It sounds like it could be a driver issue. Is the printer driver you're the 64-bit version or 32-bit version?

Also is your computer connected to the printer via wireless or with a USB cable. Try to connect to the printer using a different method and see if you have any better luck.

I don't have access to another computer unfortunately. The driver is the 64-bit version. My computer is connected with the USB cable. I have tried wireless, and no luck. I found and removed the 2 Unknown drivers (both deskjet), and reinstalled the software and drivers again, but it's still not printing. It seems like communication between the computer and printer is OK since it will print an internal Test Page in the Print Doctor, just nothing else : /

Is your firmware up to date? You can check on this link here

Also if you notice that the driver on that webpage is different to the one you have dowloaded previously I would recommend downloading the driver again. The only reason why I say this is because I'm not sure where you downloaded the driver intially.

There's also a basic driver option on the same webpage that you can try to install as well.

Lastly, try a different USB port on your computer that is connecting to the printer. It's unlikely that's the issue but there's no harm in trying.

I was able to connect it to another computer, and the printer printed without any problems. I updated the firmware, and I downloaded the software/drivers from the HP website. I am still unable to print  though : (
