Product Name/Number - Deskjet 1000 Printer J110 Series

Operating System - Windows 7

No error message, I can't get that far

No changes made, it just arrived in the mail

The installation sheet says to remove the clear tape from the ink cartridges before pushing in.

There is a clear pinkish tape which I have only been able to remove a tiny bit from one corner and have toner all over fingers from doing that. Maybe the tape is too dry to be flexible, but I just cannot do it. What can I do?

I have not tried connecting the printer to my computer yet, because I haven't gotten that far in the setup instructions.

Hi gmaharriet,

It sounds like you actually removed the copper flex strip from the cartridge. Removing more than the tape with the blue or pink tab is not covered under the normal warranty of the cartridge. You will need to purchase a new cartridge to finish setting up the printer. Take a picture of the cartridge, and then attach it to this post.

Review the following document for proper removal of the protective tape.

Nevermind. The clear tape was supposed to be left there and there was NO tab to remove, as indicated in the instructions. When I went to print, it said the cartridge was damaged. Yeah, no kidding. I was trying to dig out the tape that the instructions said should be there.

I'm really angry. By trying to follow their setup instructions, I damaged the cartridge. I'd like to complain to HP about it, but there's no form for that on this support site that I can find.
