Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have previousl downloaded the drivers for my home printer with no problems but have just got a new HP Elitebook computer. Now it is telling me that "the computer does not have the necessary USB software support to allow completion of a USB installation.  The installation can not continue until this is resolved." Given that this is an HP.   computer - this is bizare

 

Any ideas?

I understand that you are unable to install the printer on your new computer. 

Don't worry, I will be glad to assist you. 

Kudos to you for trying to troubleshoot the issue on your own.

Have you installed all the Windows updates on your computer?

 

Recommend you to run HP Support Assistant to make sure all the drivers are updated. Click here for assistance. 

Once all the Windows updates are installed and the drivers are updated. 

Please follow the procedure mentioned in this article and this should resolve the issue.

Still not happening for me. I deleted all the USbready.exe and downloaded all the latest updates from my HP Support. However exactly the same error appears - very frustrating and still can't use my printed. Any other ideas?

Thanks for the reply and try the suggested steps. 

 

Please turn off the printer and disconnect from the your computer. 

Uninstall the printer from programs and features from the control panel.

Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it.

Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top. 

Click on print server properties. 

You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there, if any.

Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.

Restart the PC.

Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box, 

Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.

It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files, ignore them).

If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.

Restart the PC again. 

Download the latest full feature driver from www.hp.com/drivers and install it on the computer.

cant install disc for HP 6122 on windows 8 desktop pc.  any hope or help

At this time, a full feature Windows 8 driver solution is not available for your product since HP Deskjet 6122 is a very old model printer. But, we can install the printer using the alternate printer drivers or built-in printer drivers.

 

There is no need to download any additional software. The print driver for HP Deskjet 5550 or HP Deskjet 990c works as an alternative driver that is compatible with many types of HP printers. 

Go to http://hp.care/2nKhTqX and follow the detailed instructions to install your HP printer.
