my hp photosmart c4780 all in one printer is giving a carriage jam error. I followed the instructions to clear, but problem persists. How can I fix?

Hello

Am not sure which steps you have taken, hopefully the document in this link will still help you solve the issue with your product: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01673683

Tried that solution. Did not help. There's a little black lever on the right hand side of the carriage area that seems to be restricting the free flow of the carriage to and from the right side. Only if I manually push it back, will the carriage then be able to move freely, manually.

Just had a similar problem. I noticed that the rollers to the left of the little black lever on the right side had sometning to do with the operation of the black lever. I used a finger nail to rotate the roller from the top down several times. ie counterclockwise looking from the right side.  In my case the problem went away. I may have changed the positon of the rollers when I pulled the jammed paper from the front of the printer causing the black lever to misalign with t he movement of the cartridges.  Hope this helps.

I am sorry. when I decided to make a copy, the noise and the little black lever stppped the inkwagen (cartridge0 from moving accompanied by a loud noise.

Hi,

I am also having this issue.  The clip does not seem to be moving into place correctly and continuously causes a carriage jam.

Does someone at HP have a solution for this, it seems to be a common issue with this printer series?

Thanks.

I have tried waiting 60 sec, reseating the little black tab, and moved the carriage back and forth several times. Nothing works at all and there seems to be a major design flaw here. I'll push the little black tab with my finger back into the printer, then I have to restart the printer, but in the process of doing so, the printer puts the little black blocker tab back out in front. Something weird is going on with this design and I hope someone from HP contacts me about this problem or I will suspect foul play in the design of this product or just plain ignorance in the design of this product...
