Hi, I have tried resolving an error message on an HP Officejet Pro 6830 printer. The message indicated that there is a cartridge jam. These are the steps I have taken that have been unsuccessful:
1. Checked for obstructions, there are none.
2. Uninstalled and re-installed software.
3. Diconnected the printer from an extension cord and powered directly from socket. Disconnected rear power cord when powered on, removed and replaced ink cartridges.
If there is a laser or some method by which the cartridge carridge measures the distance to the right of the printer, where it rests when not in action. It looks like this distance needs reset. The cartridge carridge leaves it's resting position, moves left and begins working, it then moves right, back to where it started and pushes hard against the right hand side twice. Then prompting an error message to indicate there is a cartridge jam.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hi @0102,

I see from the post that you are having a carriage Jam issue on your HP OfficeJet 6830 printer. Don't worry as I have a few steps to help you get through this concern,
Hats off to you for a job well done as you have tried the basic troubleshooting steps and checked settings on the unit, before posting the query in the HP forums. It is amazing to see how technically competent you are. It is always a privilege to work with tech-savvy customers like you.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Did this happen after making any changes on the printer?
Was there any paper jam issues? Make sure all Jammed paper is removed from the paper path
Did it happen after installing the ink cartridges?
Did you check if the rollers move freely?
In the meantime, let's once again start off by performing a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector
Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a hard reset on the printer.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Remove USB cable, if present.
Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test page and check if it works.
Next thing, I would suggest here is to go through the steps suggested in the support document for - HP Officejet Printers - A 'Carriage Jam' Message Displays
If the issue persists, I would suggest this could be a printer hardware. I would recommend you contact our HP phone support for available service related options. If your product is out of warranty, please choose paid options to get the tech support number.
