OfficeJet Pro 8600
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought new HP cartridges for my 8600, a week later it died.  now I bought an 8610, after the cartridges that came with the box are finished, I tried to replace them with my full certidges from the old 8600. it did not work as it says that I can not use them as they are protected.

I need to unprotect them to be able to use them on the new printer

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

Spoiler
it did not work as it says that I can not use them as they are protected.

Unfortunately, it is not possilbe to unprotect the cartridge.

It's protected because whoever setup the 8600 printer enabled that feature such that it cannot be used in any other printer.

Hope that explains.

Thanks.

Too bad greenturtle and it is unfair.

I have these cartridges that they 95% full and I can not use them, the 8600 broke a month after the warantee ended and I got the 8610 because it uses the same cartridges

Previously I had HP printers that lasted almost forever (since 1991) and what happened with me lately is not acceptable...

Hi @aelkady

Here's an idea. (not sure if it will work but worth a shot).

If you still have your old printer, can you remove the printheads and install it on your new printer?

Be careful not to damage the printheads!

Try printing on the new printer and see if that works.  Please keep the printhead of the new printer in a tub with the printheads facing up with a wet sponge in the tub to prevent the heads from drying.

Thanks.
