I am using the officejet 4635 and run windows 7, and have the same issue that my 8.5x11 shows up as a legal size.  please advise on how to correct this issue.

thanks in advance.

Having similar problem on J6410. The problem is in the software/driver - there is no setting for the default size.

Default size can be set for printing but not scanning. This is a problem which HP need to address in the "Solution Center" (sic) or the driver.

As there's been no reposnse from HP Support, I think it's safe to assume that nothing will be done. Time to investigate another brand?

Click show scan preview either  flat bed or ADF then choose "Scan".

Now all future scans will be 8.5x11 automatically MY post got screwed up some how.  I will repost.

I earlier today was able to change the document size on my HP OfficeJet 8600. Here’s how I did it.
1) Download “HP Scan & Print Doctor” from HP. It’s free.
2) Run and select your printer/scanner from dropdown.
3) Next select “Fix Scanning”. The system goes through a series of automatic check ending with “Test Scan”, select
4) A new dialog box opens. On the left, choose “Save as JPEG”. On the right under “Save as JPEG” in Scan Size, choose “Letter 8.5x11 inches”; Output “Grayscale”; Resolution I choose “200 dpi”; Item Type “Document”
5) Put a document in scanner and hit scan.
6) If the scan is satisfactory, all future scans from your HP OfficeJet 8600 should be letter size.
7) Good Luck

Guys...

Not wroking for me... I want to use A-4 not letter.....each time I scan it defaults back to letter....not good for my country as we are on the international A-4 standard.

Tried HP Print & Scan Doctor - nothing.

I tried to change all the print defautls to A-4....most seem to have taken... printing is OK Scanning is NOT good....

M2727nf Multifunction and I am on Win 10...it was OK until I went to Win 10....I hate it....

Anyone with some ideas????

I have been trying with no luck for many hours...

I figured out how to set the default scan size to 8.5 x 11, legal, or A4 for my OfficeJet Pro 8620.

Open the HP Print Assistant

Under Scan, click on "Scan a Document or Photo"

On the right hand side of the window, the top box shows the "Scan Size"

If you change this and scan a document, the setting is saved as the default for all future scans, even those that are intiated from your printer (rather than the desktop).  This is pretty ridiculous since nothing indicates that you have made a global change.

Even more ridiculous is that once you change this setting and scan a document, you cannot change the setting back to what you want your default to be unless you complete another scan.  If you just change the value of "Scan Size" and close the window without scanning, the previous setting remains in effect.

However, one work around to this apepars to be in the "Advanced Settings" (found at the bottom of the right hand side of the window).  When you click on "Advanced Settings" a window opens up titled "Advanced Settings for Save as PDF"

Changing these settings appears to result in global changes, so if you change anything here it will impact all future scans, even those initiaited from the printer.

Notably, if you change the "Base File Name" on the "Destination" tab or the "Save Location", these changes will likewise be global.

I found these issues out the hard way and thought I'd share to save others from the headaches I went through trying to resolve these issues!
