I travel between two locations that have the same model printer/scanner/copier/fax  (M1212nf MFP). I have no problem setting the default printer when I change locations (and the printing works fine). However, setting the default printer does not seem to change the default printer/scanner in the HP Scanning app. There is also not a preference setting in the app that allows a selection of scanning device. The HP Scanning app is version 6.0.5.8. Anyone have an idea on how I can select the scanner as I change locations? Thanks.

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

Can you try this alternative Scan software?  It will detect your scanner on each location and allows you to select the scanner to use (moreover, it's the latest Scan User Interface that HP offers to new printers)

HP Scan Extended

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi

Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"

Let us know if that works.

Had no problem downloading and installing the HP Scan Extended program and it started just fine. However, it only showed me the generic HP scanner (HP LaserJet Professional M1210 MFP Series) which I assume is coming from the installed drivers and not the name of the mapped network device (NPIEC97E4 (HP LaserJet Professional M1212nf MFP)). I also tried the Windows Fax and Scan program and it too only found the generic device. Both gave me an error message when attempting to scan. This tells me that there's something amiss with my Windows 10 system. Again, I have no problem setting the NPIEC97E4 as the default printer, it is just not being recognized as a known scan device. Any advice of where to look to correct this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

Please Uninstall and Reinstall the FULL feature software following these steps:

1. Uninstall the software in your computer
2. Download and save the FULL feature software (do not install it online)

The following resource will help you :

HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/COL50403/mp-150580-2/hppiw.exe

3. Install the FULL feature “Saved” software

Once you have downloaded and installed the FULL feature software, you will be able to print and scan.

Hope that helps!
