Product: LaserJet 5550
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I've setup a new print server running Server 2012 R2. I installed the Color LaserJet 5550 PS Class Driver on the print server. When clients attach to it the driver appears as "HP LaserJet A3/11x17 PS Class Driver". Is there an error with this driver?

If the driver works then the name is a minor issue. As far as I can tell from your post the only concern you have is the name.

Thanks for the note back on my post. As far as my tests go, it does work. I have an agency of hundreds who will undoubtedly call and question it (they're all lawyers). I'll test it some more and make sure it works completely before rolling it out. It might have been a good idea to include other paper sizes in the name on this one.

Is the driver name the same as the printer name on the server?

No, actually it's not. I had removed the driver from the server so I decided to add it back in as a test. I ran the add driver wizard and chose the HP Color LaserJet 5550 PCL6 Class Driver this time. I went to the printer on the server and switched it from an HP Universal PCL driver to the newly imported one.

 

I restarted my system and went into Control Panel and found the driver for my printer was now

 

HP Color LaserJet A3/11x17 Hardware-Copy PCL6 Class Driver

 

If I click on the drop down in the Driver field I can see that the

 

HP Color LaserJet 5550 PCL6 Classs Driver

 

is still there. So it seems that maybe my Windows 8.1 workstation has made the choice that the A3/11x17 driver is better?
