@BrickedPrinter , at this time, beyond replacing the formatter yourself there is no "fix" that HP has come up with yet. Should you buy a new printer? Really depends on how urgent your print needs are and how patient you can be while HP sorts this out. Sadly I dropped my crystal ball a few years ago and my time machine is out of order. I have not gotten my hands on a defective unit to look at, but I am working on that.

Unfortunately our M281 is also just useless hardware now.

As we are a small company and this was our only printer, we were not able to print and send invoices during the last holidays.

I really don't understand how HP can send out untested firmware updates. The printer was on "recommended" options to install automatically updates.

And without the possiblity to downgrade the firmware update this is a complete joke!

We have been using HP printers and other hardware for the past 20 years but believe me, there is not going to be any other new HP equipment in our office nor in customer projects.

I understand that errors happen but just giving no reaction and just shrugging the shoulders with - "Too bad, your printer is out of warranty" is unacceptable.

Just posting to say I'm having the same exact issue. Hoping HP might eventually respond to all of us who posted in this thread  and offer a fix, but not holding my breath.

I can confirm that replacing the formater brings printer to live. I bought a used one for about 45 EUR,

HP probably is not able to do anything with this as printers are not able to reach state in which they could be programmed again with correct firmware. That's pity they are not supporting their customers anyway.

HP = Nie wieder!!!

Service = 0

Auch kein wir kennen die Problematik und wir versuchen eine Lösung zu finden. Nur ausreden.

Same problem here.   HP have broken my printer.  I feel like this wants to wind up on their social media more obviously

I returned mine to Costco yesterday 11/5/22. It was at least 2.5 years old, she took it back without many questions. I started to explain what the problem was and before I finished she asked for my card and said "lets take a look". Got my full money back. Costco is great.

Wow, that’s great service from Costco. HP can learn from that, it’s extremely quiet here from their end. A f**ing disgrace.

Same problem here as well. HP's unwanted automatic firmware upgrade has stopped my printer working. Absolute disgrace. Disgusted at the lack of response from HP so far. This is potentially at best extremely dodgy behaviour from HP. Updates that are automatically sent which break machines isn't appropriate

does anyone know a source in germany or the EU to buy a formatter board?
