I refill my own ink cartridges but my colors now no longer print. Does HP disable printing capabilities when non-HP ink is used? My printer is less than a year old, there's plenty of ink in the cartridges, and everything looks clean and unobstructed. What could be going wrong?

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,
Riddle_Decipher is at your service.
As I Understand the Color printing doesn't seem to go through,
No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:
Did you ensure genuine HP cartridges are being used?
Have you checked the ink levels are sufficient for a print?
While you respond to that, here's what you need to do:
Step 1: Use genuine HP cartridges
HP recommends that you use genuine HP ink or toner supplies. HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP or refilled cartridges. If you do not use genuine HP cartridges, the steps in this document might not resolve the issue. To check the authenticity of your cartridges, go to hp.com/go/anticounterfeit.
Step 2: Check the estimated ink levels
Check estimated ink levels to see if any ink cartridges are critically low or empty.
Step 3: Replace any low or empty cartridges
Replace any critically low or empty ink cartridges, and then try to print again. Skip this step if all ink cartridges display full ink levels.

Thanks, Riddlel_Decipher. Yes, all of my ink cartridges are genuine HP. I refill them myself, though, and so I know they're now full of ink. What's strange is that the black cartridge is still showing the same ink level as it was before. This suggests that the ink levels are determined by the cartridge's usage and what's really in inside them. Can you confirm this?
Shouldn't I be able to refill my own genuine HP cartridges on this new printer like I've done in the past? Putting in new cartridges solved the problem, confirming there's no defect with the printer, and so this makes it seem like HP has turned the refilled cartridges off and is preventing them from being used. What do you think?

Hello, @MarkRoot
I see that you were interacting with @Riddle_Decipher. He is out of office today & I'd like to jump in with a suggestion 🙂
To answer your question, no HP did not disable the use of the refilled cartridges for your printer. The issue seems to be with the refilled cartridge that you are using. I understand that you have refilled your own cartridges, but it is noted that many a time the refilled cartridges are defective and hence the printer will be in the error state.
Since you have already tried new cartridges and it is working fine, I would suggest you try using a different refilled cartridge to check this. Let me know if you face any issues.
Thanks, I look forward to hearing back from you!
Good luck 🙂
