Deskjet F4180
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Printer (most of the time) will not print.  Under Devices and Printers it is correctly defined as F4180.  But HP believes it is an F2450, which is my wife's former printer.  There seems to be no way to correct HP's identification.  Not sure if this is the reason for the no-printing problem (Windows 10 might be involved), but having HP correctly identify the printer would be a good first step.  HP will let me "add a device," but invariably sees the printer as F2450, which does no good.

Hi @pdel1121,

Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Forums for a solution to your printing issue.

I understand that you are using an HP Deskjet F4180 All-in-One Printer with a Windows 10 computer and you are unable to print, maybe because it is being seen as an F2450. I would like to help.

I checked and found out that this printer should be compatible with Windows 10.

This seems like a software issue.

I would start by downloading and running the HP Print and Scan Doctor. This tool can diagnose and fix many printing and printer software issues.

If that dows not help you could uninstall any printer related software by following this support document - Uninstalling the Printer Software (Windows).

If you get prompted to restart the PC during the unintall, restart the PC, If you do not get prompted to restart, restart the PC when the uninstall finishes.

When the compter is ready again, try downloading and running the HP Printer Install Wizard for the installation. This tool will find the most recent version of the printer software and help with the installation.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

Thanks for the help!  I'd actually already solved the problem after lots of trial and error.  HP Print and Scan Doctor would not  complete its download.  I uninstalled all HP software for the third time, this time uninstalling the settings as well.   That proved to be key, because HP was convinced that my printer was an F2540, not an F4180.  Why this was I cannot say.  Once the settings were corrected, a reinstall worked.  The printer is once again printing.  Haven't tried to scan yet, but if it won't scan I'm going to leave well enough alone.
