HP 4500 G510a
Microsoft Windows Vista

I've got an HP 4500 G510a installed on Windows 10 (64bit) working fine printing locally.

I've got another desktop machine running Windows Vista (32 bit), that I'm trying to connect to the printer on the Win10 machine.

Sharing is enabled on both machines, and the Vista machine can SEE the printer when I try to add it as a network printer.

I downloaded the all-in-one driver from http://support.hp.com to the Vista machine, and unpacked it to C:\hp\

on the Vista machine.  No matter what I do, the network printer intaller can't find the driver in the C:\hp\  folder.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Hi,

You need to install printer software and drivers on you Vista machine the same way like on Windows 10 machine. Unpacking software only it not good enough.

Regards.

Thanks for your advice, Banhien!

To avoid confusion, and assist anyone else who may read this forum entry in the future, I'm going to list the process I followed from start to finish.

 - I downloaded OJ4500vG510a-f_Full_13_en.exe
 - I executed OJ4500vG510a-f_Full_13_en.exe
 - That installer popped up the dialog "HP Webpack - Choose a directory".
 - I created C:\hp\

 - In "HP Webpack" chose "c:\hp\" and clicked the "EXTRACT" button.

When extraction completed this dialog appeared: "HP Officejet 4500 G510a-f"
The buttons on that dialog were:
"Add a Device", "Install More Software", "HP Online Resources", "HP Easy Printer Care Software", "Uninstall", "Setup Guide"

I clicked "Add a Device".
When the dialog displayed "Connect your device now" (wanting the printer plugged in via USB)
I checked "if you are unable to connect your device..." and clicked the NEXT button.
The dialog then closed

I then proceeded to try to add the printer:
I clicked "Start > Settings > Printers"
I clicked "Add a network printer"
That bought up the "Add a printer" dialog

In that dialog, I highlighted the remote printer
I clicked the NEXT button

The following error message appeared:
"The Server for the 'HP Officejet 4500 G510a' printer
does not have the correct printer driver installed.
If you want to search for the correct driver, click OK..."

I clicked ok
A dialog appeared: "File needed printer driver INF for..."
I browsed to the folder C:\hp\OJ4500vG510a-f_Full_13_en\

None of the INF files in "C:\hp\OJ4500vG510a-f_Full_13_en\" will allow me to complete the installation of the printer.

Any insights?  🙂
