Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case regarding issues with the printer working correctly after the iOS 11 update on the iPhone. I will be delighted to assist you here.
Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂
For better clarity and to assist you correctly, I would require more information regarding this:
DId you restart the printer and check again?
For now, please try these workarounds.
Restart the printer or perform a hard reset on the printer from this link: http://hp.care/2g0iH8M and check again if it works. If it does not try these steps:
- Print with HP Smart (HP Smart does not use Airprint)
- Supports JPG, PDF, and Office Doc printing
- Print with other iOS apps that don’t use Airprint
Then check if it works. If it does not try the steps mentioned below
- Printer Settings:
- Turn off “Internet Printing Protocol over HTPPS (IPPS)” in printer EWS
- Not recommended for printers in a public location, disables encryption of print jobs
- See example below of DJ 3700 series setting
- Print from any Windows or Android device
- From this link: http://hp.care/2xXGlWC perform only step 1 Restart the computer, printer, and router. (The computer here is the phone)
HP Smart app can be downloaded and installed from this link: http://hp.care/2vtKpfK look under the section for Apple iOS.
It gives you steps on how to download, install, use the app with FAQs.
This should do the trick for you.
Also, make sure that the iOS is updated to its latest version. Install all the updates for the iOS device.
Also, some other steps to try if the above steps don’t work
- Use apple Airprint: http://hp.care/2Cx3Sl9 (HP Printers - Printing with Apple AirPrint (iOS))
- Printing from Ipad and other iOS devices: http://hp.care/2CwyZ0a (HP Printers - How to Print from iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch)
- For further assistance please check this link: http://hp.care/2BQtrQl authored by a Forum specialist who is also an HP employee.
Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. To simply say thanks, please click the"Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.
Take care and have a blessed week ahead. 🙂
Cheers!

None of the steps you outline work. HP needs to provide an update to make this an AirPrint printer, and quit promoting this as a printer to be used by your mobile device if your not including Apple. Very disappointed. Sorry I didn’t purchase a Brother. Lesson learned.
