Photosmart B209a
Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite

I have finally been able to connect the Photosmart B209a to my Mac running Yosemite following the advice in these two links

http://support.hp.com/es-es/product/HP-Photosmart-Plus-All-in-One-Printer-series---B209/3777155/mode...

But ONLY through the USB cable.

I am completely incapable of connecting through the WIFI connection. I cannot find good instructions on how to do it.

I understand there were some HP utilities in the past to do this but that since now the drivers come from the Apple Software Update we don´t have that advantage. Hence all I can do is go through the system preferences but when I add the printer I cannot seem to be able to set up the wifi connection.

The printer is fine on my network, it has an IP and the test report is in all aspects satisfactory however the Mac does not seem to find it.

When I try to set it up as an IP printer using Deskjet protocol it fails to connect due to an error. It would be good if HP could answer whether there is a solution or just tell us if all this effort is in vain. I am tired of spending time following random posts unsatisfactory solutions.

Finally made it.

Roughly following Wi-Fi Guy advice below I managed to get it to work with one exception, I could not access the router through the Safari Bookmarks Bonjour link which in my case is nowhere to be seen.

In the end I figured out that what seems to be required is to  disconnect the printer from the network. Connect to it directly from the MAC using the hpsetup ad-hoc network. This  is the only way I got the Mac to see the printer from printer preferences and clcking on the + sign. If you already got the HP drivers from the Apple software update I think this is straightforward. At this point it seems the Mac knows about the existence of the printer.

So then you need to get the MAC off the hpsetup wifi and back on your normal network and get the printer back again on that network as well.

At least in my case this required using the usual way of using the WPS button (which I had to enable on the router because it had been disabled). The Bonjour business was not useful for me since I never was able to found this link in the bookmarsk on explorer.

Hope this helps.....

Re: Can't connect Photosmart Plus B209a... Wireless just endlessly looks for my network

Let's try to connect the B209a manually to your network:

  1. From the printer, restore the printer's network configuration.
  2. Enable the printer's radio.
  3. From your Mac, connect to the printer's network called hpsetup.
  4. Open Safari and select Bookmarks -> Show all Bookmarks.
  5. Select Bonjour on the left.  Your printer should appear in Safari's main window.
  6. Double click on the printer.  The printer's internal web page should appear.
  7. Select the green Networking tab on the printer's web page.
  8. Select Wireless (802.11) on the left
  9. Press Start Wizard and follow the prompts to connect your printer to the network.

Reconnect your Mac to the Belkin network.  Check that you can browse the printer's internal web page (steps 4, 5, 6).

All that is left is to install the HP printers SW on your Mac.  Since the printer is already on your network, you won't need the USB cable to configure the printer.

This respsone was the ONLY response that was helpful, I have been trying for days to connect my printer to my new network... Finally, someone knows what they are talking about, thank you!!

The links you provided are in Spanish, so unfortunately I cannot understand them. This is so frustrating! We got a new router and all I want to do is reconnect the printer using the different router codes, but this seems impossible.
