Hi Forum,

First to say that I only think my printer is Inkjet it might be laser!

Whenever I try to scan a document the overview scan is totally black. I have changed "kind" from text, to black & white to colour and only even get a black overview. When I print the scan off again it is totally black. When I try to copy a doc - same result. Despite this, the printer is working fine.

I have deleted the printer and reinstalled with the same result!

I will be grateful for any suggestions.

Paddy

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.

I understand that you have an HP PSC 1400 All-in-One Printer. I read that the printing works fine, but not the scanning and copying. The scan and copy output is totally black.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Did any updates happen for the printer (firmware)?

I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
  • Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
  • Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
  • The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector. Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.

Try to make a copy and check if the scanner bulb glows inside the printer. If the issue persists then it indicates towards a hardware issue. You may have to contact our HP phone support to explore the hardware service options for your HP Printer.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to keep me posted for any questions. Cheers! 🙂

Hi MKazi,

Many thanks for your reply - I'm afraid it did not work! I tried it twice with the same black page being printed. I tried copy and scan!

I don't think I received any updated firmware - unfortunately I do not have the original disc - but the driver definitely is loaded on my computer!

I'l try anythink you suggest!

Regards,

Paddy

You're most welcome. 🙂

The results indicate towards a scanning hardware failure. Please check if the scanner bulb inside the printer glows and moves or not. If not then you may reach out to our HP phone support to explore the hardware service options for your printer.

Keep me posted for any questions. Good luck!
