HP Officejet 5740
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard

In the app that shows up when I print using my HP Officejet 5740 Series, under the "Window" pulldown menu there is an option for "Show Completed Jobs". Clicking this brings up a list of every job I have printed - big or small - since I first activated the printer. How do I either completely delete or selectively delete this list? For office confidentiality reasons I can't have a list showing things like "John Doe Disciplinary Report" showing up where everyone can see it (the printer is on a shared computer and no having a dedicated private boss-only computer isn't an option).

I googled this query and the only options I'm seeing are I have to uninstall the printer every single time I use it, which is a bit dumb. Surely there's a setting to disable this feature? As I am on a Mac is there perhaps a plist-style file I can delete? Thanks!

Greetings @Sadman,

Thanks for accessing the HP Support Forums for extra support! I see that the print jobs are being saved and you would like to be able to delete them. I would like to help.

What app are you referring to?

Are they listed in the Printers and Scanners print queue also?

Thanks!

It's just the program that comes up when I send a print job to the printer. It's just called "HP Officejet 5740 Series". It's the thing that comes up that shows print progress, has the button for settings or activating the scanner. "Edit" "printer" "Jobs" "Window" "Help" pull-own menus.

Printers and Scanners queue just shows current/active jobs. This is the historical list. Under Window aside from the usual "Maximize/Minimize" options there is an option that says "Show Completed Jobs". Click that and it displays every single thing - with file names - this printer has spun out since I plugged it into my Mac about 3 months ago. I want to be able to erase the list or disable the feature. Thanks again for your help!

Hi @Sadman,

You should be able to just highlight the jobs and delete them. I don't have a 10.6 operating system available in our lab to check. If you are still having issues, please provide a screen shot for me to take a look at.

Thanks!

I can highlight individual jobs but no options are provided for doing anything. No right-click options, nothing highlighted other than the job clicked on. I can't even save the list if I wanted to do that. Here's a screen capture of what I get. The white box is obviously redacted material for privacy - just the file names and my name.

Hi @Sadman,

I found some information on this. Use at your own discretion. I would suggest to contact Apple.

Thanks!

I'm a bit puzzled. Why would I have to contact Apple for something that is part of your support app?

Hi @Sadman

The document shows that there was a fix by going into the Terminal to resolve this issue with the older Macs.

Thanks!
