DesignJet 111
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Several problems at upgrade from WIN 7 to WIN 10.

The HP DesignJet is "offline" and can not understand how to change setting to "online".

Setting  "print direct to printer" does nothing.

Yellow blinking light on printer dashboard - shows magenta ink cartridge as empty but it is full.

HP computer shows printer installed - is in Device Manager - shows "This device is working properly."

Printer is listed in Devices and Printers.

HP Support Assisant does not recognize - list printer, can not find device when trying to "Add Devise".

Printer turns itself off or recycles off to on after turning on.

Hi,

If you have a driver issue:

Remove the driver completely from the computer, then download and install the lates driver.

Here is the link incase you need it

http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=4123145&swLangOid=8&swEnvOid=4192

Now, the Yellow blinking light on the panel means that the printer needs atencion, like :

- Close a cover that is open

- Out of paper

- Paper skew

- Paper jam

- An error code

If you have 6 colums on the ink levels instead of 4 is because you have an error code.

On the following link you will find more information on how to ready the error codes

http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.oid=352387&docId=emr_na-bpp03841

If you have an error code, the printer will appear offline on your computer.

On this other link, you will find how to check other messages on the printer

http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c01669949

While I have been using computers since 1992, have learned, and been able to perform functions, installs or software and programs, fix problems, set up networks so on and so forth, the Windows 10 launch and replacement of Windows 7 on 2 desktops and a Windows 8 laptop has been met with numerous problems. Knowing of probelms with Windows 8, we bought the W8 laptop with the knowledge that we would be able to upgrade to W10.

Some of the biggest problems have been with normal and standard function on the two laptops. The Windows 7 laptop has been fixed to function, the Windows 8 laptop has never reached a point of complete function, and we converted back to the ugly Windows 8. The 2 desktops and the Windows 8 laptop are HP.

It seems that my primary desktop, being with an HP CAD capable CPU would have a better chance of rendering the 2 connected HP printers, including the HP DesingJet 111, but the problems remain. HP printer support does not list the HP 111 in  the Windows 10 "My Devices", yet the disconnection of the HP 111 USB cable and reconnect produces the ding - chime indicating a connection to the computer.....then clicking "Add A Device" (other printers connected listed) produces the message, "No device found, please try again later."

Seeking to remove the drirver in Windows 10 as you instructed above, a specific internet search for "Windows 10 remove HP 111 driver" only produces instructions for Windows 7, and specifically "remove the devise". I removed the HP 111, and  reloaded the original Install CD. All seemed well until I reached "checking for updates". I am connected to the internet, and the install has been hung up - frozen on "checking for updates" for 20 minutes - no results. I had assumed that reinstall of software, and checking for updates would have produced the latest driver.

Before removing the HP 111, I dowloaded the latest driver in hopes for an execute - install walk through - remove existing and install new. There was none, and the unzipped driver folder held no exectue files that auto popped on the screen or popped when clicking specific files.

Being that the problems I have had were not a part of day to day events when running Windows 7, I gather and have the opinion that Windows 10was released too early.  Windows 10 has problems where HP - HP computers and devices have problems that HO is not fully prepared to address.  This opinion comes from the printer problems as described (blinking yellow light - low ink - yes - no real problem) and the effort to search - correct other problems specifically using Windows 10 as the OS. Information specific to Windows 10 is most cases has not been not available when searching thoroughly and with above average experience, knowledge and base intellgence.

As I conclude this response, HP DesingJet 111 Printer Series Setup is still hungup - frozen on "Checking for updates. Please Wait.........."  I am lost - reached my end here  Mike81, hoping you are indeed a Master Graduate and can help. Otherwise I have big fish to fry - architectural designs to print with the HP 111, and considering a weekend revert back to Windows 7.

To much information yet to little informaton.  You need to separate the upgrade from the printer.  In other words, turn the printer on with it only connected to power.  No cable to network or computer.  Now does the printer come to ready where you use the control panel button to print a page or at least load a page or roll where it is in ready mode.  If you have a blinking light for the magenta is it the ink cartridge which is the middle part or the printhead which is the bottom part on the display.  In any case you need to get that issue resolved before attempting to work with the new upgrade.  If new ink cartrdge does not work, then it is possible you have an issue with the ink supply assembly which may have to be replaced.

Hi,

Please let us know if David's recommendations help with the problem.

Also, is the cartridges are in warranty, you can call HP to get a replacement.

H John,

I have the same problem with my designjet 111.  Prints on win 7 but not on win 10.

Did you ever get resolution for this problem?  The Windows 10 driver offered on hp site is useless.

Thanks in advance

You need to tell us how the printer is connected to the computer.  If using parallel cable, there is an issue with windows 10 which can be resolved.  You have to go to device manager and then click on ports and the double click on lpt number which the printer is connected and then click on settings and change the setting to use any interrupt assigned to the port.  Turn the computer off and then back on and it should now work.
