Deskjet 1510

My deskjet 1510 all-in-one, recently is refusing to print after indicating that my black ink catridge was empty (whether or not it was I don’t know).

However the indicator light is still flashing with the new cartridge(genuine HP), indicating it is empty too, and as a result the printer will still not allow me to print.

I tried all the typical advice; unplugging the printer for 10 minutes to reset it -- multiple times. I even reinserted the old cartridge and tried resetting it with that. I also cleaned the conections in the printer and on the cartridge itself.

I know the new cartridge works because I forced a “10-tap test” and it printed out flawlessly but the printer still thinks it is empty, and still will not let me print from my computer or from the scanner. It will only print if I force a 10-tap using on the printer itself. I would have tried a 10-tap on the old cartridge but I threw it away.

Perhaps I can perform something similar to a 10-tap test but that would also tell the printer that the cartridge is working fine, so I can print again.

There must be a way to force it accept that the cartridge or to force it to print despite this. It printed perfectly fine on the 10-tap test, so it should be able to print fine normally, if I can just force it to do so.

At this point, I have spent 12 hours on it and have no desire to waste more time. I don't mind if I have to get dirty with the printers internal components e.g. rip out a firmware battery or something -- it’s out of warranty anyways, and at this point I am not very fond of it so if I can't get it to work I am throwing it away and getting a new one (different brand of course), so the printer has nothing to lose.

Is there anything that can be done to force it to ignore the error, reset to factory settings (not just unplugging it), or otherwise force it print? I don’t mind if it tells me the cartridge is empty but I should have some recourse when I determine it is not. The printer should not have the final say.

Any suggestions.
