Deskjet 2540
macOS 10.12 Sierra

Have a Deskjet 2540 that used to work just fine. I got a new router and now I can't scan.

I setup the printer and I can print just fine, but when I try to scan, I keep getting this error: scanner reported an error an error occurred during scanning

Any help is appreciated.

@JaredMoore

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂

I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.

As I understand the HP Deskjet 2540 Can Print, but not scan,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help you, although, to provide an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern:

Did you clean the scanner glass and the ADF rollers?

Did you install any recent firmware upgrades?

Let me know if you can then scan using the HP software?

While you answer my queries, here's what you can do:

  • Start with restarting the device:
  • Turn off the Router, printer & computer, and then reboot the router.
  • Once the router is fully rebooted start the printer and then the computer.
  • If you are still unable to scan using an HP software, open paint and try scanning from Microsoft Paint
