Hi LHeinicke13,

Sorry to hear the printer is having a hardware failure with the door open sensor. Have you checked out the additional support options at the link below for out of warranty printer?

I'm struggling to register, probably old-age. I want the answer to "false report open output tray"

hi Provost

i am not an HP expert but i have worked in engineering for over 30 years.    looking at the 'switch' that you have identified, i can tell you that it is not a switch, it is just a peice of plastic that engages with one of the teeth on a cog just inside the printer when the door is closed so that the cog will not turn.    the printer can recognise that the cog is locked and reports to 'open the door'.

i have removed the door completely and the 'switch' so that it does not imobilise the cog.

STILL IT TELLS ME TO OPEN THE DOOR.

if you are an 'HP expert' then can you tell me what is going on.     do not bother just blurbing out another load of drivvel about brocken 'switchs' but tell us how to tell the printer that either the door is open or removed.

i wil be impressed if you can sort this out and maybe then you can have some KUDOS STARS.

Hmmm......still no response to this question?

I am having the EXACT same issue. No, the arm is not broken. No, my product isn't still under warranty, because, like a few other customers on this thread, I expect an HP printer to last more than 3 years. No, I am not interested in the 'other options' because I don't feel like I should have to pay $25+ dollars to repair a device that I've only had for a few years, have handled with the utmost care, and have only printed with maybe 19 or 20 times..

Please don't regurgitate the same information again, answer our questions.

This is not intended to be a personal attack, and we appreciate your attempting to help, but you have a lot of customers with an obvious manufacturing issue inherent in the product your company sells, suffering issues with their product and not getting any resolution to the issue without shelling out MORE money. We paid our hard earned money, purchased your product out of many others, now HP should figure out a way to fix this, so it's product can perform its BASIC FUNCTION and PRINT instead of popping up with erroneous error messages.

I'm sorry, but this is just ridiculous.

I'm having this same issue, but the small switch/lever where the tray connects to MY printer appears to be fully intact and connected. Any other ideas to fix the problem?

HP Recommended

Solved mine by reset, remove power cord for  1minute and reconnect.

I get an out of paper error on the computer when selecting my HP Deskjet 3510 printer.  There is no error message on the printer display and it copies and scan find.  help

TOTALLY agree with you...

and now see we still don't have an answer, did anyone resolved this issue already?

There is no use calling Customer Service here in Qatar they don't even have a good HP service center here

I have same issue and have no problem understanding your description of the mechanics and what you are trying to acheive even without your illustrations. I have 2 printers a 1050 and a 3050 which both share the same components to detect door open/closed I was hoping to get 1 machine out of the 2 but the lack of servicability is a big hinderence. Both printer have faults in sensors/contacts 1 in the door sensor the other printer cartridge detection. Software for both gives irratic and unreliable operation.    Finding a solution on this forum is proving to be a headache and links from "Experts" although different are sending me to the same page which is very irritating.

Exactly,........... my sentiments too . If issues like this do not get a better " Quality" response from  HP Representatives and the Product lifetime is so poor customers are going to look elseware for new hardware. It's as simple a that but I doubt the message is getting thru.
