My HP Deskjet 3050 all-in-one is about 18 months old and worked fine until last week. I got the message that there was a problem with the Tri-Color cartridge so I replaced it. After installation I got the message that there was an issue with both cartridges. I did a hard reset by holding down the Cancel & OK button and got though the set up until I get the message "both used HP ink cartridges installed" with a message to press ok. However, pressing ok does not do anything or clear this message on the screen so I am stuck on this message. (Pressing ok did work for the previous messages, such as insert plain paper, etc.) I am using OSX Lion but this issue happens regardless of whether I am connected to the printer or not. Thanks!

Resetting the printer likely caused it to "forget" that the cartridges in it had been used by your printer causing the message you see. Are there any error lights on the front panel? If so the docuemnt here may help. Cleaning the cartridge contacts as shown in Step 3 of this document may also help.

Thanks. I tried the methods suggested for the blinking lights and cleaned the contact points when I had the "both cartridges problem" message. Since none of this worked, it was suggested that it was beyond repair. I figured I'd try the reset as a last ditch effort.

Another idea is to remove both cartridges and do the hard reset again (as you described in your first post). Once the printer comes back to life, insert the cartridges and test again.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.
