Deskjet 3050a All in One J611
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

So I've had my hp deskjet 3050a J611 series for a while but just opened it now.  I downloaded the software from hp website and have wireless printing setup.  Alignment page prints just fine then I place alignment pag face down on glass and press ok as advised on the printer screen to scan, it is giving me issues.

I receive the error message, "Alignment page not detected.  Press OK to continue."  OR "Alignment failed.  Cartidges are set to default quality."  Pressing ok leads me to a screen at the top that states, "Retry Alignment?"  Then below that it says Print page or scan page.   Selecting print just prints alignment page perfectly fine again and pressing scan gives me the error again.

Furthermore, I cannot print black?!?!?!  I can print basically any other color, in fact I actually printed a photo from a website perfectly fine.  Could this be an issue with in cartidage which is new but really old.  Again issue is with black ink.

@mikebj22

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

I understand that you have an HP Deskjet 3050A e-All-in-One J611 Printer and have tried to set it up. The alignment pages prints but does not scan. There's a message stating that "Alignment page not detected.  Press OK to continue."  Or "Alignment failed. Cartridges are set to default quality." Secondly, the printer does not print black color. I'd like to assist you with this case. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • For how long was the printer not been used?
  • Were the cartridges left open or were the cartridges still in their original packaging?

Meanwhile, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
  • Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
  • Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
  • The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector. Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.

Let's have the cartridges cleaned manually. Especially the black cartridge. Please refer to steps mentioned under "Solution three: Clean the electrical contacts" from this link. Then try to align the printer again. If the issue persists then replace the black ink cartridge and then try to re-align.

Please feel free to let me know the results. I'm always here to assist. Cheers! 🙂

Does the unit's built-in "copy" function work correctly, or does it produce a "blank" page?

Do you see any white light "leaking" around the top-cover while it is scanning?

Do you hear the scanning-head moving down the source image?

If you do not observe what you expect, then the "scanner" component may be broken.

Thus, it's time to exercise the "warranty" to get it replaced/repaired.
