I have a 5-year old+ Deskjet 9800 that now crashes every time. I looked at the LED error guide but I can't see any explanation to what I am seeing.
All of the LEDs are flashing very fast (not the slow sequence but all and very fast).
I unplug the printer, wait 10-20 seconds then plug it back in. The "On-LIne" green LED comes on and all seems OK but when I try to print again, in almost every instance, all the LEDs flash VERY fast and the printer fails.
Now some times, it does start to print but after one page or during printing, all the LEDs start flashing very fast, the printer stops, the print heads stop wherever they are and the printer crashes. The only way out is to power cycle the printer.
Am I experiencing a main board failure?
If so, I will retire this 5-year old printer and get a new one which has a wired Ethernet port (can't use wireless over here).

You might try cleaning the encoder strip as shown in the post here. The encoder strip is fragile, please read and heed the warnings. Only use water to clean the strip, not alcohol or any other solvents as the fine lines printed on the strip are needed for proper operation of the printer. Be gentle!
