Hi,
Just installed the above printer and surprisingly, it prints only in black.
I've checked cartridges, re-installed driver, cleaned cartridges and nothing helps...
A test print -without pc- produced a nice color image, but, files sent from the pc, are printed black only...
My pc runs Win 10 64bit.
Help solving this, will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Eli

Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case regarding issues with printing in color even after reinstalling the printer drivers. You need to restart the computer to make it work again. I will be delighted to assist you here.
Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂
To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this:
- Did this happen after a recent software or Windows update?
- Did you try to uninstall the printer drivers and the root level and reinstall them back on?
For now, try these steps:
Please perform a hard reset on the printer from this link: http://hp.care/2FnBZAw and follow instructions from Step1 to complete the hard reset.
Then uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers by following these steps:
- In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
- Select your HP printer.
- Select Uninstall.
- In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
- In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
- Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
- Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
- Click on Drivers tab.
- Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
- Select OK.
- Remove all instances of the same.
- Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
- Close Devices and Printers.
- Restart the PC again.
Then create a new user account as an administrator from this link: http://hp.care/2rZfJBC
Log into the new user account after restarting your computer.
Then download the latest full feature driver from http://hp.care/2fA1P50 and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.
Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.
This should fix it for you.
If this does not do the trick, please download the Windows Built-in drivers by following instructions from this link: http://hp.care/2o3acvH
This will resolve the issue for you.
Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat.
Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you.

I don't know if this printer has a bug in Windows 10. I am facing the same issue. Tried to reinstall the driver and reset the printer multiple times. But the problem still persists. Though the PC printing prints in color everytime I reinstall the drivers, until I plug in the USB cable to print wired.

Okay. Here’s a workaround that works for me and makes my HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 3835 print in color, wirelessly on PC, with full fledged quality settings. Absolutely there is a bug in this printer’s supplied driver that is causing problems in Windows 10 latest builds. No matter how many times you fresh install the drivers, it’ll work for moments and then again greyscale prints! Although Android and wired PC printing works fine. The supplied driver software is somehow not able to create a compatible bridge between the printer and Windows OS. Setting up the printer manually fixes it. Follow the steps. And remember to first connect your printer & PC both to a router(or your Android Hotspot) because things may not work in Wi-Fi direct connection.
- Go to Settings> Devices> Printers & Scanners and first delete all the previously added device related to this HP Deskjet 3830 printer and then click on “Add Printer or scanner”.
- Don’t click on the printer that Windows found. Instead click on “The printer that I want…..”.
- Click on “My printer is little older…..” and then click on Next.
- Then windows will search for the printer. Click on “Deskjet 3830 series” & click next.
- This is the most crucial part. As the supplied driver is bad, opt for “Replace the current driver” and click next.
- Now name this printer in next step as “HP Deskjet 3830(Wireless). (Because printers utilize separate ports for USB and wireless printing, and our wireless port is bugged.)
- Next step is for printer sharing. If you understand this, fill it, or just select the top option.
- Now you’re done. Click on finish.
- Now just to verify, go to Microsoft Word or any word processor and try to print something. Select the printer that you just added and You’ll see that its ready to print.
- Click on Printer properties>Paper quality. Voila! There are many quality options that was absent before in wireless mode. Now it’ll flawlessly print without any bugs on Wireless mode.
And just a suggestion that HP Smart app offers very limited options on Windows. Avoid it! I recommend Printing everything from the inbuilt printing options of software packages, as they provide way more flexibility and options. Though everything should work fine as long as you select the right printer that we configured in printer options.

I had bought the HP3835 in March 2017 and it worked without any problem.
However I installed the new updated driver (as requested) a few months back and now I can either print:
either SINGLE SIDED in COLOUR ONLY - using HP ePRINT + Jet Advantage
or DOUBLE SIDED in B/W ONLY - using the printer driver (HP Deskjet 3830 Series)
This is really inconvenient if I have to print large documents since I can't print colour documents as double sided.
I now re-installed the Driver and it keeps crashing. This is driving me crazy and I'm wasting a lot ot time.
Can you give us a link to the older driver again?
Thank you

I faced the similar problem, the re installation would definitely help. But I would suggest if you are in hurry, you can use mobile app "HP Smart" to get the color print over Wi-FI and fix the issue of Windows color printing later.
