Each time I click on the HP Officejet Pro 8600 icon the system requires me to run DeviceSetup.exe. How do I stop this? It is frustrating and time consuming to run setup each time I want to access my printer on my computer

Hi,
First open the Control Panel > Devices and Printers and remove any instance of the 8600 by right cliking it and selecting Remove Device.
Next follow the doxument below to repair the pritner software:
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03659948
Finally open the software and follow the steps to connect a new printer, once the configuration completes it should no longer happen.
Please let me know of any issues,
Shlomi

I've seen this problem on several HP Officejet printers, even mine an OfficeJet 8610a
I pulled out a lot of hair due to this problem. I don't have time to sit and reinstall HP software every time I want to scan.
The only solution I have found is to remove the entire HP software suit, and then reinstall it. Then Decide if you want to use the printer as a USB printer or a network printer and use it only as such.
The problem seems to be due to a buggy HP software, which gets confused if the same printer is installed both as an USB printer and a network printer. I don't have time to investigate it further because then I would have to reinstall the software again, and it just takes too long.
I don't think HP is aware of this bug. All info I found when I tried to find a solution online for the problem just explained how to reinstall the software.
Hopefully they will notice this post and investigate.
Oh btw, If you don't have it, I recommend creating a shortcut directly to
"C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP Officejet Pro 8610\bin\HPScan.exe",
which will let you connect to your scanner faster than with the printer shortcut.
Exchange "HP Officejet Pro 8610" in the above path to the correct path for your system.
Do not confuse with "C:\Program Files\HP\HP Officejet Pro 8610\Bin\ScanToPCActivationApp.exe". When I ran that program on my system I had to reinstall. Again.
