Prints are coming out printed twice. The text and lines are doubled, not ghosted, with a horizontal offset of 1/8 to 1/4 inch (across the 8.5” width). Reprinting the file results either in a different offset or a correct print.

This is not something where the different print cartridges are misaligned.

Thank you for joining the HP Support Community

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Are you facing the same issue while making a copy?

If you are facing the same issue while making a copy, follow the document.

Click here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-pro-8710-all-in-one-printer-series/7902014/docume... for Print Quality Issues.

If the copy is working fine, let's update the printer firmware and Mac software:

Update printer firmware

Update software on Mac

Restart the printer and the MAC

Then, follow the below steps to remove the printer and add the printer as AirPrint.

Step 1: Remove multiple printers from the printer list

Check for multiple devices in the Printers list, and then remove any extra entries other than one in idle status.

  1. Search the Mac for Print, and then click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners in the list of results.

  2. Find the printer names that match your printer from the list of devices.

Figure : Printers and Scanner window with multiple names of a printer in the list

  3. If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button  at the bottom of the list. Leave one 'idle' printer in the list that matches your printer if available and use this printer as the Default printer.

  4. Try printing again.

    • If the printer prints, you can stop troubleshooting.

    • If the printer remains offline or displays an error, continue to the next step.

Step 2: Delete the existing print queue and add the printer

Remove the printer queue from the list of printers, and then add it again. Doing so creates a new printing session.

  1. Make sure your Mac is connected to the Internet.

  2. In the Printers list, click your HP printer, and then click the Minus button  to delete it.

  3. Click the Add button .

  4. Find and select the name of your printer from the Printer list, and then click Add to add your printer. Do not select an HP Fax driver.

  5. Click Print Using or Use.

  6. Select the name of your printer (if available) or AirPrint.

Your new printer queue displays in the Printers list in an Idle status .

  7. Try printing again.

Sorry Raj, I went through the printer driver download and update and it is still double printing. Usually hitting print again will make it come out right but what a waste of time, paper, and ink. Frustrating....

This does not show up as a problem with copying.

Driver for Mac: version 2.0.

Firmware installed is WBP2CN1848AR (from printed Printer Status Report).

Is that the most recent firmware version? I was unable to get firmware update program to run which may be related to being on a public wifi.

Reset the printing system

Resetting the print system clears any error states by removing all HP and non-HP printers, print jobs, and printer preferences.

  1. Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences.

  2. Click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners.

  3. Right-click (or Control + click) anywhere inside the Printers window, and then click Reset printing system.

Resetting the print system on a Mac computer

  4. Click Reset in the confirmation window.

  5. Enter the Administrator name and password, and then click OK to complete the reset.

After the printing system resets, add your printer as AirPrint back to the list and try to print.
