The F4280 connects to Macbook by USB cable.

Printer and scanner worked fine until after recent Big Sur 11.6.4 OS upgrade.

After that upgrade, F4280 is not recognised (doesn't show in printer list) by Mac's Printers and Scanners.

Have looked online for help in HP and Apple web sites.

My impression from the web (I'm not very savvy about this subject) is that neither Apple nor HP  provide a driver for the USB type F4280 to use with 11.6.4.

This has depressed me, as the printer worked very well, and recently had new HP cartridges!!

Another printer still works fine with the Macbook, after the OS upgrade.

If no 'official' driver is available, would one or an earlier OS version be worth trying?

Thanks in anticipation of success.

Downloaded the provided HP driver dotdmg link.

Installation of it on Macbook with OS 11.6 reported as "successful".

Then, was unable to find HP drivers on hard drive, via wide-ranging manual search and spotlight search.

Therefore the video procedure was followed only as far as with USB cable connected, looked in Printers and Scanners - HP printer not in list of printers.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi @Kadec ,

.,., -..,

So try with that, Turn On Deskjet printer, connect USB cable and try again to Add Printer.

HP F4280, with USB cable connection to Macbook Pro, now functions (print and scan).

Many hours have been spent trying to bring this about, with lots of online sources (inc HP and Apple) stating no drivers were available. Can't recall all (really most) of what was done, but the key things were:-

With Macbook OS Big Sur 11.6, HewlettPackardPrinterDrivers.dmg was downloaded and installed 'successfully' (that was the message but not the fact).

It was NOT successful, as, with Printer-Macbook connected by USB cable,  the Printer having first been isolated from power supply (at printer and a.c. supply), F4280 was not listed in Printers & Faxes.

Downloaded and  used on Macbook, HP Uninstaller. (This did not remove the .dmg file.)

With Printer not connected to Macbook, upgraded Macbook OS to Monterey 12. 2.1. (using 'About this Mac' > 'System Report').

With printer still unconnected to Macbook, F4280 appeared in Macbook Printers and Scanners dialog box, with spinning wheel showing.

Printer and Macbook were connected by USB cable, and the Printer powered on. The spinning wheel stopped spinning and the Printer was found to print and scan, commanded from the Macbook.

Hope this is of help.
