If you are struggling to get this printer to print both sides of a page on MacOS 12 Sierra, the HP instructions are very lacking in this area. After a lot of searching I found on HPs website the comment that Air Print (which is how the printer automatically configured itself) is not compatible with auto duplex printing. I had to uninstall the printer and reinstall it with an HP driver. Do not select Air Print and if you see those words in System Preferences for the printer,  duplex will not work.  HP should put a notice in the printer box - I was ready to return the printer as a very dissatisfied customer but the store was closed and I made "one more try" and solved it.
