In a furthering effort to possibly resolve 'Fatal Error during installtion' issue, I un-installed all HP software then deleted all of the files under the "HP" folder found under the Program Files (x86) folder in the C: drive.  When  I ran the original installation disc to install the printer, I got a pop-up box requesting "Insert the 'HPProductAssistant' disc and click OK."  I do not and never had such a disc.  Where can I download this HPProductAssistant.msi file to complete the printer installation?  The only icon showing after the "installation" is HP Photosmart 2.01.   Note: the Fatal Error message at the end of 'installation' gives no code number or other hint as to what weht wrong.  The error analyzer faults out before completing the analysis and report.

As a follow-up, I did find a "HPProductAssistant.msi" file on the original install disc but although it 'accepted' it as an apparent valvid file name, it always comes back with the same message "The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disc that is not available.   Insert the 'HPProductAssistant' disc and click OK."  Although the printer shows as available on the printer page, it cannot be accessed to print any documents.  There is no way to access the Scan to File (on the computer) feature.

Followed your instructions to uninstall the printe, download the latest software, delete the printer from the Devices and Printers page, then install the latest software.  Every thing going great until after a re-boot with about 94% complete and the printer USB cable plugged in, a pop-up HPProductAssistant box was displayed wiht the message, "The feature your are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disc that is not available.   Insert 'HPProductAssistannt' disc and click OK."

Where am I supposed to find this file?

Hi @abcdpuppies, I am the @Chimney_83. It looks like you were interacting with @The_Fossette, but he is out of the office today so I'll take over from here.

Thanks for the reply and trying the suggested steps.

Recommend you to uninstall the printer again using the method mentioned below. (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstall.)

Uninstall the printer from programs and features from the control panel. (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)

Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it.

Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.

Click on print server properties.

You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there, if any.

Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.

Restart the PC.

Update the firmware on the printer using the control panel on the printer. (Will require the printer to be connected to your wireless network.)

Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,

Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.

It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).

If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.

Restart the PC again.

Download the latest full feature driver from www.hp.com/drivers and install it on the computer.

Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.

Let me know if this helped.

I follow what you are saying until you get to the part about updating the printer firmware.  You say to use the printer control panel and that the printer will have to be connected to the wi-fi network.  The only connections on the C5250 are the power cord and the USB cord.  The pritner was manufactured long before there were "wireless" printers or printers that use wi-fi.  I would abpreciate much more detailed instructions about updating the firmware since it does not have wi-fi access.

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply, you can update the firmware using USB. I must have missed checking the specifications of your printer.

To download the firmware update please visit www.hp.com/drivers and enter the printer model number.

Please try the procedure suggested and let me know how it goes.

Is the firmware included in the full feature download (first file listed on the link), what is 'communicated' between the computer and printer during the last 4% of the install proceedure?  I do not see anything on the linked page that says anything about printer firmware or firmware updates.
