Hi @MNK1,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see that you are getting the message, "Engine Communication Error", when trying to print from the computer. But you can print a hardware self test. I would like to help you resolve this issue. If this helps you to reach a solution, please click the "Accept as Solution" button down below in this message. If you wish to say thanks for my effort to help, click the " Thumbs Up " to give me a Kudos.
The "Engine Communication Error", means that the product has an internal communication error.
I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
Since you can print the hardware self test, I would suggest to uninstall and reinstall the printer software, just to rule that out. Here is a link to the drivers: hp_LJ_P1005_P1505_Full_Solution_ROW.exe
Please let me know the results and if there is anything else I can help you with. Thank you.

Hi @MNK1,
It may be a false hardware error, since the hardware self test page is printing. Very odd.
I would try another USB port on the computer and another USB cable.
If you have access to another computer, install the printer on it, to see if you get the error message again.
Let me know how you make out. Thank you.
