I bought this printer 2 days ago in New York and brought it to Pakistan. The printer turn up, I configured it. It printed the test page and then I let it update the new firmware. Power load shedding is a regular feature in Pakistan. After 1/2 and hour the power went down and I am stuck with the "do not power down during update" screen. I have chatted with tech support in US and all they gave me was bl-tl-rl and nothing happened. I can't return the printer since I live in Pakistan and haven't used the printer at all. If HP does not solve this problem soon, it would be a shame.

I brought mine back to Micro Center (after about 60 days), not really expecting them to take it back, but when I described the problem they took it without another question. I wonder if they're seeing bunches of these coming back. Kudos to them for accepting it, now I can get on to a better machine!

My printer is stuck in update loop as well! UGH! Been like that for several days even after plugging and unplugging. Boo!
I just got off the phone with HP Support. They are clearly aware of this problem because they patched me through to a support specialist on this specific issue. They told me they are trying to get all these devices back to HP so to send mine back to them for a refurbished product. I told them I was just past the 21 days- literally at like day 35 of owning this device and a refurbished device was not an appropriate alternative. They have a manager set to call me to discuss a refund in the next 24hrs...
That being said, I decided to try the BL-TL-BR-TL ( which wasn't easy considering I coulnd't see the buttons as the screen is blacked out... I used a flashlight that lit up the 4 keys on each side of the screen). I tried doing the sequence about 15 times before all of a sudden the screen blacked out and re-started the downloading of updates (never got taken to a secret menu). I am now at step 3 of 5 in the updates... about where it got stuck last time... we shall see what happens this time around.
Good luck to all having this problem- it's super annoying.

Hey everyone all of my problems are solved!!! Ha Ha Ha
Did yo know there are different models of the HP Envy 100 printer?
Mine was the sleek all black Model the D410b Special Addition.
What I received is the D410A in white.... NOT WHAT I PAID FOR!!!!
again by HP, it's my fault becasue they set me the spec of the printer, and everything was EXACTLY the same except for the single letter in a page of text.
ohhh, Did I say it only prints 50% of the time from my iOS devices.....
Tech support turned me over to the Macintosh side after 30 minutes.... but I dont own a MAC I exclaimed.....
MAC side of the HP house, said We only support Mac's you have a PC..... I need you to talk to the PC people.....
"I dont have problems with printing for a PC... I shouted....
I tried to tell them someone just stole my PC, so I didnt need to go back to the PC side... "Sir, I ONLY SUPPORT MAC, you dont have a MAC"
"Please hold for HP PC Support......Wait..Wait..Wait.... "Im sorry sir, I cant seem toTransfer you....Sorry... please call back at 1-888-HP_BLOWS

Just got off the phone with tech support. Guess it's a well known problem at this point because he set me up with a replacement fairly quickly. He said after I get the replacement to go in and turn off automatic updates. He also said that they are indeed working on a fix for the issue and once that firmware update is available we can then update the printer.
I may upgrade once they have the fix …but I doubt I'll ever turn the auto-update back on. Consider me gun shy.
Was a good tech support experience!

Nice,
They finally suggested turning off updates, as we suggested weeks ago.
What a great company and what a great printer. Printer works great and crashes permanently with updates that HP still sends!!!
Best looking paperweight I ever bought.
I hope your replacement works well, and that HP gets its act together.

Good day all,
I would like to share some info on this issue.
there is a Firmware patch up on HP's website for this particular problem that was uploaded on March 31, 2011.
here is a catch, for me at least, they only wrote the firmware patch for the Windows operating systems.
i will need to find a PC and load the software then the firmware patch and finally put it back on the network after the patch is in place.
long story short, i have not put this in the works yet being i have no PC on hand, but should have some feedback in about a week or two.
it looks like this may be the fix i have been waiting for.
let me know if it works for anyone out there.
cheers!
