I have just purchsed an HP Envy 4500 and set it all up yesterday with a wireless connection.  I can print from my laptop, or from my iPad using AirPrint, without any difficulty, but I am totally unable to set up Web Services so that I can use ePrint.  Every time I go through the process, either from the printer control panel or my computer, I get the same response: "Connection Error. The printer could not connect to the server.  Check the internet connection or the proxy setting".  I have a working internet connection and I am not using a proxy server.  Any ideas, please?

Hi there, glad to hear you got resolution to this problem. The Google DNS setting is suggested as an alternative in this solution because it is a highly reliable and well maintained domain name server and therefore less likely to conection errors than some internet service provider DNS settings.

Hi there, take a look at Solution E "Set a Manual IP/DNS Server settings on your printer" in this post to see if it resolves the issue of your printer not being able to connect to the ePrint service.

Hi,

THank you for replying so promptly.  However, when I follow the procedure described in your link, I get to the page where I define a static ip ok, but having followed the intructions to the letter there, I immediately jump to a page with a small red cross in a circle followed by "Invalid input",  I have tried this several times now, checking very carefully that I am entering everything correctly, but I get the same result every time.

HI,

Further to my last post, I managed to change the printer to a fixed ip address using the front panel on the printer.  However, while the attempt to connect to the Web Service goes on for considerably longer than it did before (several minutes), it still ultimately fails, with the message:

Cannot connect to the server.

Check the Internet connection and try again. Or contact your system administrator or the person who set up the printer.
If your network requires a proxy server address to connect to Internet, click Enter Proxy or check your browser settings

Have you any further thoughts, please?

Hi,

Just to let you know that I finally solved my problem by following the suggestion to change  the DNS server address to the Google public one of 8.8.8.8 , rather than my router's (Netgear DGN3700V2) local one of 192.168.0.1.    I have no understanding of why this change should make the difference though, and if anyone could explain that to me I would greatly appreciate it.
