hp envy 5642

My new HP 5642 printer keeps shutting off and I want it to stay on all day so that I don't have to keep pushing the button to turn it on everytime I need to print something. Most people don't have time to start reading manuals and seeking trouble shooting help to find a solution that keeps the printer on. So, if this is an energy saving feature, your printers should come with that feature already turned off. If buyers want it, they should have to turn it on. How can I quickly override this feature or completely shut it off? Help is much appreciated. 🙂

I see that you have a very peculiar issue with your printer. Don't worry as I have a few steps which should help you to resolve this issue,

 

Please make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

Remove all the ink cartridges and then perform a Hard reset on the printer.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test page and check if it works.

 

Next thing, I would suggest here is to check for the latest firmware update, if available for your printer, using this link.
