Envy 7640
macOS 10.12 Sierra

Envy 7640 prints and scans great, but it takes 9 1/2 minutes to print a color 4X6 photo.  Is there a fix for this?  Photo printing is my hobby.  The MacBook Pro is 3 months old and the printer is 3 days old.

Hi,

Thankyou for contacting our support forum,

Looks like you are facing slow printing when priting on 4x6 photo paper. Is it the same when you print on different size photo paper.

Was the printer installed with HP-ENVY-7640-series_v12.39.0.dmg driver available on hp.com.

Could you please let us know the driver version installed ( Go to System Preferences>>Printer and Scanner>>Highlight the printer and click on Options & supplies)

Could you please delete the printer from Printer and Scanner by clicking on the (-) Symbol.

We may also reset the printing system( Right click on the Printer icon from Printers and Scanners and click reset printing system)

Note: this will delete all printer in the queue.

Click on (+) and add the printer. Select the printer and make sure you select the HP Printer name under the USE section.

Make sure Correct Paper size and type are selected from the application.

Try printing again

Thanks

There are a lot of different variables involved here.  Here are some questions and porrible things to try.

Are you printing directly from an application?

- Some applications will generate very large files.  These files will take a log time to transmit to the printer.  You might tell the application to reduce the quality of the print to speed up the printing.

- Some of the time to print might be in the application and not the printer.

Have you tried printing from the OS directly?

- This will have the printing take plase after any of the applications rendering.

Have you tried printing directly from the printer

- The 7640 has a USB port.  You might try putting the file you want to print (in JPG of PDF format) on a USB thumb drive and putting it into the printer.  A menu will come up allowing you to print the image on the thumb drive.

Thanks for all your suggestions.  My printer driver is a Version 2.0.  I did load it from the website.  The quality of the pbhotos is excellent, but it does take much to long to be very usefull.  It seems to be slow regardless of the size of picture.  It also slows down when ;printing a recipe from the internet if it has a small picture on it.  Again, thanks for your help.

Many thanks for your suggestions.  I hope my answers to you suggestions areapp[ropriate.  I don't really understand them all but here goes.  I am printing from iPhotos.  I don't know how to tell it to reduce size of the files, but it does take some time to transfer the file to the printer and then 5 minutes to print it.  When printing it prints a quick spurt and then pauses.  It does that throughoput the job.

I don't know how to print from the OS.  Sorry, but I don't understand what that really means,or how to do it.

Yes!  From a USB it prints quickly!  Is this a solution or a diagnostic tool?

Again, thanks very much for your help.
