Hi...

Since putting in a new Fuser unit and updating the Firmware to version 2307851_000057 we are expericencing alot of

13.FF.FF Power on Jam messages. There is never any paper "Jamed"

IS your opinion like mine that the new replacement fuser is slightly Faulty ?

thanks for any responses.

This is the only reference I was able to find in the service manual.

13.WX.FF

Description

Power on residual paper jam

This jam occurs when the paper exists at any of the paper path jam sensors at power on or door close.

Due to the current FW timing requirements, the displayed jam code is always 13.FF.FF, only the event

log will have 13.WX

You can try turning the printer off, unplug the power cord. Remove the fuser. Remove the paper tray. Look the printer over really good with a flashlight and make sure there are no paper jams in the machine- being sure to pay close attention to the paper exit area (the top tray where paper leaves the machine). There is probably a clear plastic guide that helps paper exit the fusing area for the duplex path, make sure that clear plastic piece is seated well, and that any other "black flaps" in that section are moging freely. Plug the printer back up and power on with the fuser not in the printer. It should error out on boot up. Record that error message and numbers if possible. Power down the printer. Put the fuser back in being sure that you hear it "click" into place. Power back up the printer. If you can get the printer to power up and be in a "ready" state- i would push firmware to it again.

I am not a HP employee. I am a service tech on these forums researching topics and offering my best guess to aide in your troubleshooting.

Thanks from the reply...

I did some further looking around and have IDentified the error seems to be somethign to do with the fuser loop

we had the 0080 code as show below.  IT looks like you can do manual sensor tests.

This is the article i found but for a different printer

Appendix A - Troubleshooting 13.FF.FF

Paper jams reported in the Event Log include a 25 character payload which describes the condition of the engine when the jam occurred. Four of these characters are used to indicate the sensor reporting the jam.

Hello,

You indicate the fuser loop sensor, that is contained inside the fuser.  Do you happen to have the fuser that you removed originally?  If the error did not exist with that fuser, then this can help isolate the sensor source.

You are probably right that the fuser you installed has a problem.  Where did you get the fuser?  Is it a brand new genuine HP fuser?  You should be able to get a replacement.

I can help further if you need.

Dave

thanks for the reply Dave. I put the original fuser back in yesterday afternoon. I was out of the office today so am not sure if they suffered anymore jams, I will put the replacement back in tomorrow and see what happens.

The new replacement that may have the fault is an original HP fuser. It was purchased through Ebuyer I think. I will let you know the outcome.

Thanks

Hi Dave...

An update..

The fuser generated the 13.FF.FF error a few times this morning with just putting it in and closing the right hand side doors.

Also on some prints the 2nd page comes out wiht some sort of ghosting, sort of looks like a 3d image.

Im not sure there is an issue with this. Do you agree ?

Hi Jason,

To confirm, the original fuser that was not causing a problem was installed back and now you get the 13.FF.FF and a print defect.  Correct?

Why was the original fuser replaced?

If possible, please attach an image of the print defect?

Thanks,

Dave

Hi Dave...

No the new fuser causes either the 13.FF.FF jam message either during printing or when the door is closed after putting it in. ITs also sometimes producing the ghosting/3d effect on page 2 and 3 of print outs.

Putting the old fuser back in all is fine.

HP are sending out a replacement fuser.

Hello,

Ok, sounds like it has been isolated to the fuser "Loop Sensor".  The faulty loop sensor can cause the Image Defect because the speed of the paper is fluctuating when the image is being placed on the page by the ITB.  The loop sensor's purpose is to regulate the speed of the page going into the fuser and through the image transfer process (ITB to paper).  The loop is established and maintained to assure that the fuser does not pull the page when the image is being transfered by the ITB.

Regards,

Dave
