Unless I'm missing something, this directory does not exist for W7.  How is it fixed for W7?

Hi, I checked my laptop with W7 and the directory does excist in the same way as with Windows Vista. Delete all files in the folder c:/ProgramData/Hewlet-Packard/ToolboxFX/Settings/ and all your problems with HP ToolboxFX will be resolved. Remember that this directory is a hidden directory and you will need to turn on the view of this folder doing as follows:

Click Start

Computer

Click Organize in the second line left in your file browser

Choose Folder and search options

Choose the fleak View

In Advanced Settings be sure to click Show hidden files, folders and files

Click Apply and OK (be sure to reverse this settings after you have deleted all the files in the c:/ProgramData/Hewlet-Packard/ToolboxFX/Settings/).

Now you can return back to the c:/ directory and you will see the folder ProgramData, click on the folder name and find the Hewlet-Packard/TollboxFX/Settings directory and delete all file in the Settings directory.

Now it should work out for you.

Best Regards, Vidar

Fixed!!  I can't tell you how stupid I feel.  After HP support connected to my PC and didn't fix it correctly I assumed it was a bug in the code.  I have been working on computers for many, many years and it never came to me to check to see if I was viewing hidden files.  I would say I'll never make that mistake again, but I question it.

Thanks Vidar!!!!

I was confounded by that error message and so happy to run across your suggestion for a fix.  It seems that the printer is up and running and still connected to both of my computers even though I deleted those files.  THANKS!

This folder is empty. Thanks!

Try the following and see if it works for you;

  • Please go to the following directory  C:\ProgramData\Hewlett-Packard\ToolboxFX\Settings
  • Under this directory delete all the files in Settings folder.
  • Then reboot pc and restart the printer.

*This can occur when the IP has changed or the printer had lost communication and been re-connected.

I am suddenly having the same problem with scanning from an HP CM2320, it was working fine now am getting this error. Win32NT - 5.1.2600.196608 HP ToolboxFX Ver 004.020.00162. The thing is the folder (no files hidden) C:\ProgramData\ is Empty.

Hi,  This trick worked for me in the past, but now it doesn't.

The error message reads: The software had trouble scanning or was cancelled. Please try again.

Any ideas, affable j?

Error: HP ToolboxFX[ New ]
I can't get HP ToolboxFX to work. When starting my computer I receive an error box that says:

HP Toolbox FX has encountered an error and cannot recover.

It says to restart it or restart my PC, neither of those actions s, the same error box appears, the TollboxFX does not function.

I have a Laserjet Pro CM1415fnw color MFP running wireless.

What's the solution to my problem???

I deleted all the files in the ToolboxFX/Settings folder and then deleted the Settings folder before rebooting.  That seems to have worked for now.  Thanks
