What are the next steps when I get a message of "Unable to scan, copy or send a fax" when I try to any of these on my new HP Officejet 6700 premium all in one series unit? It prints fine, it passes the fax text, but does not allow me to copy, scan or fax. Is there a place to go to review error messages like this?

I am having the same issue too! It's brand new, and the thing doesn't scan.

It sounds like something is locked, because the motor runs for a split second and then stops.

Same problem with my HP 6700 Premium, unable to scan, copy or send a fax. Need an answer! (Doubly frustrating because I settled for the HP 6700 Premium after my brand-new HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus adamantly refused to recognize photo paper -- neither I nor the folks at Staples could get it to print on photo paper because no matter how we loaded the paper, the printer said the paper tray was empty! Have been a faithful HP customer since the mid-80s, but am beginning to rethink my loyalty!)

I had same problem. HP tech support had me unplug from power strip and plug into wall socket. I thought it was a useless exercise, but after power up the printer would copy. I originally noticed the problem, because I could not scan from HP drivers or windows drivers. I can scan from both now.

I have a new 6700 premium and it does the same thing. There is no issue with power from the socket, something in the internal software is timing out IMHO.

I have been sitting here working at my desk and the printer suddenly displays that message.  Nothing has flickered, power strips used for the PC and printer are the same, so while HP is saying its the outlet I strongly doubt that is the case.

All you have to do is turn the printer off for 5 seconds and back on and its good to go.  If that works and you never change the outlet or recycle power strips, why does the HP answer make sense?

How about a REAL FIX HP?????

I'm having the same issue (print is 1 month old) and wondering if anyone from HP ever responds?  I can print wirelessly without issue, can sometimes scan if I go into my printer utility and select scan (never though from the HP printer screen), but the document feeder tray will not pick up papers to copy/scan, nor can I make copies from the flatbead.  I get the same error message on the screen (after it goes through noisy motions) saying "unable to scan, copy or send a fax."  Have not found a solution anywhere and don't have time to go through the warranty process or hassle of returning, Wish I had not purchased this model!

If you haven't already tried, try installing the latest firmware update. I was having this problem with that printer at work as soon as I updated it, it worked perfectly.

What do I do to remedy the above problem?

Hello George,

I understand you are unable to scan, copy or fax on your Officejet 6700. This is related to "scanner failure". I have researched the issue for you and have located a troubleshooting document for you to follow.

OK, I did Both Step1 & 2 TWICE - Still not working!

It says I'm out of warranty even though I just purchased this printer in December???
