My HP Officejet Pro 8600 will fax intra-state to all area codes. When attempting to fax to a toll free number
ie; 1-877-270-3317, I get an error message 322. What is the solution?

Hi @Oly_HRanch ,
I see that you are experiencing issues faxing to a toll free number. I will do my best to assist you with this issue.
The error code 322 means that there was a communication error with the receiving fax machine due to poor telephone line conditions.
Set the receiving machine to receive at a slower transmission speed.
Go to Setup, Fax Menu Advanced Fax Setup, Fax Speed, try medium and slow if you are still having issues.
If the session fails after sending several pages of a large document, resend the document as several smaller documents.
Retry the fax reception at a different time when telephone line conditions have improved. Call the telephone provider if line conditions fail to improve.

Hi Oly_HRanch ,
Try sending a fax to the HP FaxBack Server to see if it will go through. You should get a fax back.
1-888-473-2963
This way we can determine if it is one specific number you are trying to fax to.

Faxing to 1-888-473-2963 produced the same #322 message. A telephone support line said that the problem was with my local telephone carrier. I'm not understanding why that is. The service line dials and connects, as I can hear both faxed "talking".
