Photosmart 6520e
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I use a Pavilion DV7 64bit laptop to which my Photosmart 6520e is coupled. I was on Windows 7 but have upgraded to Windows 10 in the last 2 months.

Windows updates tells me that attempts to install an update to ymy printer keep failing. The message I get is 'HP -  Imaging - Null Print - HP Photosmart 6520 Series - Error 0x8024200b' Unable to install update.

So far, I've not had a solution to this from Microsoft after trying various suggestions such as Windows update troubleshooting and clean boot.

Has anyone got any additional ideas or could this be because there are no suitable Windows 10 Graphics drivers for my 5 years old laptop?

By turning off the auto updates you can test the HP drivers b4 Microsoft rewrites them.

From Settings, search for "Device Manager".

Under Printers check for any "Unidentified Printers".

If there are any then right click & select uninstall.

Thanks for your response. I've checked as you suggest and there are no printers or other devices on my system. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing my printer but still get the same result.

I have a feeling that this may be connected with the lack of dedicated Windows 10 drivers to replace Radeon 5000 and 4200 for my 5 years old laptop but am not sufficiently knowledgeable to be sure.

Appreciate your suggestion.

Do you see any other errors in the Device manager?

No, there are no other problems that I can see. I know that the 2 AMD drivers are the nearest that are available, if these are the problem. What is strange is that if I uninstall the 5000 and 4200 drivers, Windows updates supposedly re-installs them. If I then go into properties, for the 5000 it tells me Windows has stopped the device because it has reported problems (Code 43) and for the 4200 it tells me no drivers are installed for this device. Whether or not there is a connection between tis and error code 8024200b I'm not qualified to judge.

I would try installing the latest video drivers available from HP.

Good idea, thanks, but I've already done that successfully

Also disable auto updates in Windows 10.

I'm happy enough to do that but what benefit will it give me and what is the likely effect on the problem. Incidentally, the error code has changed again - it is now 80070103

Did I misunderstand you, both the HP & Microsoft drivers produce the same error?
