I have taken apart my HP Laserjet 2600n printer to clean the mirrors to restore the red color which was fading out. I did this about a year ago. Putting it back together again everything worked great and the red improved. I again did this but this time after putting back together I got an error message "Yellow scanner error" 51.23 Error. The solution was to turn of and back on but this didn’t solve the problem. I again took apart the printer and carefully put back together again. This time the error came up "Magenta scanner error" Error 51.22. Close but still haven’t solved the problem. What exactly is causing this problem and how do I fix it?

These errors appear to be a laser failure error. There are a few suggestions out there for you to try on your own like this one from sharuel that worked for him.
It is unlikely you can resolve this yourself, but to unplug the printer for 15 minutes, and then plug it back and see if the error cleared. This can sometimes be caused by power fluctuation, so if the printer is connected to a UPS or powersurge protector, try to connect it directly to the wall.
Also here is a link to a page showing what the error message means and suggestions on what to do which are basic steps related to the error message.
If all this fails, there is no other option but getting HP or a technician to service the printer.
If I solved your post please mark it as solved to help others.

I had 51.23 error with my cm1514fn MFP. There is a laser shield inside the laser scanner unit. while front door open it is closing laser beam room for safety. I cleaned my laser scanner unit and forgot to place little spring which moves this shield in front of LSU. And after so many cable plug, unplug....... I found that spring as fallen behind the ITB unit. When I placed it to its own place 51.23 error disappared. I hope this will help others which have 51.2x error after laser cleaning.

You will get this error if you forgot to put the shutter spring back on the shutter lever after closing the laser unit. It's easy to miss the shutter spring when taking the laser unit apart. Check out figure 14 on page 5 of the following mirror cleaning assembly / disassembly pdf guide to see where the shutter spring is. You want to remove it before opening the laser unit, and re-install it after closing the unit post mirror cleaning procedure.

I just had this problem 51.23 when I replaced my black cartridge. (HP 2605, cartridge Q6000). Several retries at turning off then on - no luck. Occasionally another error message would appear, door open. Slow opening then closing the printer door showed all the cartridges protective cover opened properly exposing the drum. Except the new cartridge. Further inspection of other normal cartridges showed a black plastic pin attached to the protective cover extending beyond the side margin of the cartridge that would engage a lever on the door which would open or close the cartridge gate according to the door position. However on the defective new black cartridge that pin on the side was missing. (broken off??). Easy to miss that pin when looking at the cartridge. Back to the store for a replacement with pictures, and a new replacement cartidge (with the side pin) now works great. No problem with the printer, just the cartridge.
