HP Officejet 7612
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I have been trying to print a page off of a website for my daughter's homework and keep getting an error message.

"There is a problem with the printer or ink system.  turn printer off and then on.  if problem still persists contact hp"

I have gone through all of the troubleshooting steps including unplugging the printer for at least 60 seconds and then plugging it in.  I continue to have the same message.  Can someone please help me.  Its tax time and I need my printer.  Although I purchased the printer a year ago, I just unpacked it and only printed about 6 pages before this error occured.

Hello, @Carol99 – Hope you are well 🙂

Welcome to the HP Forum! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips.

I understand that you are getting an error message while trying to print. Is the message appearing on the printer screen or the computer screen? Do let me know!

Alternatively, I would suggest performing a power drain on the printer. Here are the steps:

  • Remove the cartridges from the printer.
  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle and try to print.

If the error message is on the computer screen, try making a copy. Place a document face down on the scanner glass and press the copy option on the printer control panel. Let me know if it makes a good copy or not.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

Good luck 🙂

Hello,

Thanks for helping me with this problem.  I tried the steps that you posted and still have the same problem.  It won't clear the screen on the printer so I don't think i can scan or copy with it either.

Any other ideas??

I tried all of the step that you had suggested.  The error message is still on the printer screen.  It makes the printer unusable.  Please help me figure how to fix this problem.

Should I unistall the printer then reinstall.  if so how do I accomplish that.

Have a wonderful day!

Hello, @Carol99

Thanks for the update!

I am afraid there is a hardware failure with your printer. I would suggest contacting the HP phone support for further assistance.

You can visit http://www.support.hp.com/contact-hp and fill in your product details to get the tech support number.

(1) Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.

(2) Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.

(3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.

(4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

If you have any troubles, let me know and I will do my best to help!

Thank you again and may you also have a great day and even better tomorrow 🙂

Thanks for your advice.  I did call HP and they wanted to charge me to tell me to do what you already had me do.  Then they wanted to charge me to sell me a refurbished printer just like the one I purchased new for the same price.  Apparently there is no way to repair my printer or there is no interest in fixing my printer.  Either way I don't have the cash to buy a new printer at this time.  Its unfortunate that I used this printer so little and it doesnt work.

I forgot to tell you that when I first started to use the printer, I used the internet to get it working.  Then I found that there was a cd rom to use  so I inserted it into my computer.  Could it be that I did something to the printer by loading the program twice?

Have a wonderful day and thanks again for all your assistance!

Hello, @Carol99

No, installing the printer drivers from the internet or the CD is not the cause of this issue. The issue is with the printer hardware and not the drivers on your PC.

You can check http://hp.care/2kI4udQ for the new printer releases and other offers that might interest you.

I'm sorry that I could not be of further help 😞

Have a great day 🙂

I contacted HP and they wanted to sell me a refurbished printer of the same model I already have.  If they can refurbish, why can't i get the parts to repair my printer?
