Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I just purchased a Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw and installed the software using the enclosed installer disc.

Everything is working: Scan, FAX, Print

But everytime I restart my PC, I get the error window popping up with contents

Win32NT - 6.1.7601.65536

170.040.00253

There is no explanatory text in the window; just what I show above.

I click OK in the window and it goes away, not bothering me again until I restart the PC.

I went to some other forums and It appears the problem is with HPToolboxFX and one person suggested I locate the software, right cluick and select NT4 compatibility for that software.  I'd love to try that but I cannot find the HPToolBoxFX software so no help there.

Other suggestions (from HP) were to reinstall the software, so I downloaded the most recent full installer (14.0.15245.256) software from

http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Color-LaserJet-Pro-MFP-M277-series/7089945/model/...

I ran the new software once to uninstall the existing software, ran CCleaner to clean th registry, rebooted the PC and installed the new software.

Same problem.

All the functionality is there (Scan, FAX, Print), but every time I restart the PC, the error window pops up.

Note, this error window di not appear before the installation of the HP M277 software and disappeared when I uninstalled the software, so it is definitely due to the HP M277 software.

How can I get rid of the error window popping up every time I restart my PC.

HP, your hardware is good, but you need to work on your software. This issue with the HP Toolkit has been on the forums how for at least 2 years that I can see. I also discovered that in spite of the fact that I ran the uninstall utility, it did NOT uninstall all the M277 software. In fact it left quite a bit of the software still installed, including the old and new OCR software and the Alert and Update notices. An old post (by an HP representative) on another forum suggested I re-run the software (again ...) and de-select all the non core software, including "Printer Status and Alerts", "HP Update", .... I did this and I no longer have the error window pop up on every restart of my PC. And all the functionality I want (Scan, Print, FAX) works fine. So apparently, HP has added software (that is very difficult if not impossible to remove using normal methods) that is not required, apparently only benefits HP, not the user, and has caused problems for a number of users for over 2 years, yet HP does not fix it. I like the multi-function-printer. I have been an ardent HP supporter going back to the RPN calculators. But this is very poor on your part HP and we have a right to expect better from you.
